Freeze Frame - The Score of Moviebooks

A German Smooth Jazz album which will be distributed by Orchard in between the next months. I received a rare evaluation copy from Ray Bach, mastermind of this project.

A pair of Jean-Luc Ponty albums from the 2000s:
Life Enigma
The Atacama Experience ("Atacama" was misspelled on the album cover and liner notes with the "c" and "t" inverted)

Marcus Miller "Live" Night in Monte Carlo.

This is one of the greatest CD's I have bought in a long time. It's as good or better than the latest from Spyro.

It may seem derogatory, but the phrase "blue-eyed soul" usually refers to a white person who sings in a soulful style.
From All Music Guide: Blue-Eyed Soul refers to soul and R&B music performed and sung by white musicians. The term first came into play during the mid-'60s, when acts like the Righteous Brothers had hits with soulful songs like "You Lost That Loving Feeling." Throughout the late '60s, blue-eyed soul thrived, as acts like the Rascals, the Box Tops, Mitch Ryder, Tony Joe White, and Roy Head had a series of hits. During the '70s, blue-eyed soul continued to be successful, as acts like Hall & Oates, Robert Palmer, Average White Band, Boz Scaggs, and David Bowie updated the formula.
I'll add to that list Teena Marie and (ick) Michael Bolton.

Exactly that's it. The group postulate their style as Blue-eyed soul. You can also call it soft rock or just pop music.

Hans, I haven't heard Roan Soul, but I checked their Web site.
There's a sentence that says: "Roan Soul hits with combining their favorite styles of Rock, Pop, R & B, and Latin."
Calling that blue-eyed soul is misleading. It's part of what they do, but defining their sound by that one element is as off-base as defining Spyro Gyra as a smooth jazz band because of "Morning Dance" or "Arianna."
Likewise, I think it's a mistake to characterize them as pop or soft rock because of how they look. The whole point of saying "blue-eyed soul" is so people know to expect something other than pop or rock.

I just watched the "House of Love" video on their main page. A few observations:
- Good song.
- Stylistically, I don't think this comes remotely close to blue-eyed soul. Fans of U2 or John Mayer may like it, but I don't think the Brian McKnight/Usher crowd would sit still for it. Of course, that statement is based on the premise that the majority of music listeners are one-dimensional. They're all-pop or all-R&B and don't like to get out of their comfort zone. Eclectic people aren't restricted like that.
- That's the deepest floor tom I've ever seen.

When you google after the term "Roan Soul" you can also see the metatag of their website (description for search-engines):

Blue eyed soul and modern love songs from comtemporary song writing duo - Berry and Schenck.

Me, either, lol.
Anyway, if that song is any indication, they're a very good duo - no matter what they're called.

I'm listening to various Rippingtons and Ken Navarro songs because in the last few days, I normalized the audio on, and cut out silence at the beginning of, my MP3s (ripped from my CDs).
