Yes that one is going to hurt. But from what I read what he was asking for was just more then the Colts felt they could afford. The have yet to sign the big boy from BC yet either. He is the last rookie still out there. With the numbers game that teams are forced to play good players sometimes get away. This will be a big spot to fill no doubt.

The Colts also let Clint Session go to the Jaguars. The Jaguars really put the emphasis on defense.

When you got a 13-14 year veteran like Olin Kruetz (Bears center, multiple Pro Bowler) who has lived out his contract and is holding out over a new one...and wants to remain a Bear, I have no problem with that.

But when a Chris Johnson holds out in the middle of his contract, I wish just one time a franchise would tell him to stick it and move on without him. It could happen with the new changes going down in Tennessee. I'd love to see it. He's a good player but has been paid VERY handsomely.

With all the Chris Johnson jerseys being sold, I'm sure Bud Adams can afford to pay him more. Olin Kruetz is only worth his performance on the field. A star running back gains for the owner on and off the field. If someone is going to make money off your name and likeness, get what they are willing to pay. Over the hill centers can't negotiate!

I never have cared for players who want to write a new deal in the middle of a contract. You signed a deal in good faith, live with it until the end of your current one. Get into camp and do your job.

If I had an employee that met and exceeded my expectations, I would have no problem ripping up the old contract. If I'm the Titans manager, he would have been in camp and ready to play. Pay the man already.

There is too much made of these situations. Here are the options.

1) Let the guy sit out, fine him, he doesn't play he doesn't get paid. No player is this stupid...we'll...nevermind.

2) Rip up contract but give him what is fair. That is, fair market value. Since he is NOT a free agent he is not on the open market so his market value is MUCH lower that if he was a free agent (no one else can bid on him but the Titans so his value is what THEY say it is). So yes, Bud Adams should not be a jerk. Go ahead and give him a raise this year only but an owner is an IDIOT if he writes him a new contract with extended years "right now" because he is not worth that "right now."
Once he lives out the contract, let the chips fall where they may.

3) Be foolish and give him top money now, he gets hurt, production drops from taking too many hits, player wins, owner loses.

Option #2 is most logical but Johnson needs to be realistic to his own situation. If an owner can't renegotiate a contract for an overpaid player (many more of these) then a player should not be able to renegotiate their contract as an "underpaid" player.

While I agree that in this case he has played beyond value of his contract...what would he do if the were just the other way around? How many times have we seen players with huge deals fall flat for a season or two? Do they ever offer to give back some of that cash because their level of performance did not match pay rate? OF COURSE NOT!

Could Titans be a stand up team and offer him a short term deal more in line with what he has done on the field thus far, of course they could. But I am not who feels they have to. Johnson has a contract now that was based I am guessing on value of his prior performances. His next contract will no doubt also reflect what he has done for the team during his current deal. Get into camp and and be a team player. It is the hazzard of a multi-year deal and I am guessing that there are probably more players getting high end deals with low end results then there are players like Johnson.

He's certainly underpaid. I say give him a raise of paying him around #10 of top running backs until his contract is up. I'm guessing his pay is like top 20-25 range. After contract is up he can try to get whatever he feels he's worth.

I heard that Colts owner, Jim Irsay, was in Hattiesburg, MS looking for Brett Favre. The Colts are out of luck without Peyton Manning.

The Cowboys didn't do much to improve their defense.
