The announcers either need to learn the rules or do a better job of explaining them.
On the Austin Collie injury, Phil Simms just said he had both feet on the ground, and once you're a runner, you're allowed to have helmet-to-helmet contact.
The ruling was "defenseless receiver." Just my opinion: If you're going to have a ruling that restricts hits on players as they catch a ball - I thought it was supposed to protect those who drop or miss passes from vicious hits - be clear in that blows to the head or "jarring" hits that happen when a defender launches himself are permitted only after the receiver has completed a catch and started to run.
In this case, the refs called it an incomplete pass.
Collie was not a runner.
So I don't see what Simms is upset about.

The refs recognize the Colts uniforms enough to call the game in their favor. Let the players play the game--not the refs.

The hit on Collie seemed like a legit hit after a catch to me. It should have been ruled a fumble. Reggie Wayne doesn't look like he's 100% either.

How 'bout them Cowboys? OMG, 45-7!!! Dez Bryant is still trying at least.

Yes and no my friend. The hand tap to the head of Manning was a far stretch from roughing the passer. But as I understand it any contact to the head is a penalty my rule. So while I think in this case we caught a break, just where do you draw the line?

The helmet to helmet call was also very close to call. I have my own take on these things as I have stated. While a case might be made for the call, I would hope that league will not fine or suspend him. Some of these are going to be unavoidable, but having said that I still believe we need to call the penalty and in some cases fine and suspend. We can shout about letting them play, but we never saw this as often as we do now in the years gone by. Yes the Collie hit was not a go for the head hit, we still need to keep these rules in effect. I am not saying this as a Colt fan, I recognize the fact that we caught a break on both calls. I am pushing this as a former player who came up on the very short end of a helmet to helmet hit. Yes there will be some questionable calls along the way, but in the long run we may save a life or two by having reasonable enforcement.

Oh and hats off the Eagles for playing hard and well and handing us a third loss. Great game over all, knew we would have trouble with Vick who seems to be getting better and better and back to old form.

It was a helmet-to-helmet hit. End of story. Is the rule fair? I don't know. It's getting so defenders can't tackle anybody without being worried about a 15-yard penalty or a fine. But it is the rule. And even if you don't call the penalty, that was an incomplete pass.
As for Dallas, it's a sad day (as if the whole season hasn't been sad) when a rookie receiver's the only guy doing his job, day in and day out.
The handful of guys who were making plays in September are either invisible now or running around like bungling idiots.

I see today that the league chose not to fine or suspend the defender in the Collie hit. That was a good move on the league's part. Collie is recovering according to the team, a severe concussion and nothing more, that is no long term problems at this point. I am surprised no one made mentioned of the call on the Colts punter. I think maybe he has been getting lessons from Reggie Miller on how to draw a foul.

Bum got his walking papers mid season. I am not so sure these mid season changes really do any good, but the way things have been going guess they felt something had to be done.

After making the wrong call in the matter, how could they penalize the Eagles players twice? The refs also made a bad called when Trent Cole sacked Manning and caused him to fumble the ball.
