Here are the rules:
- Pick your favorite electric guitar solos from any genre. Special emphasis should be on those that you find yourself humming (or playing) at times when you're not listening to the song, or you want to play the song again just to hear the solo.
- The song must be on a licensed recording or an online video. In other words, concert experiences don't count unless the solo is available for all of us to view.
- Provide as much information as possible to distinguish one version of a song from another. Include some or all of the following: Guitarist's name; group or bandleader if not the guitarist; title of song; album title (if it's from a CD); and any other pertinent information.
- Multiple guitarists may count as one solo if from the same song (an example being the closing to Hotel California).
- Provide links when possible.
- This is not a Top 5. For most of us, that's impossible to do. But it is 5 of your favorite. Feel free to post as many favorites as you like, but try to limit them to 5 a day.
I'll start with:
5 - Julio Fernandez, Spyro Gyra, "Breakfast at Igor's" from Dreams Beyond Control. The high point for me is at the 2:32 mark.
3 - Lee Ritenour, White Water from Portrait.
4 - David Jenkins, Pablo Cruise, Whatcha Gonna Do from A Place in the Sun
2 - Larry Carlton, Tom Scott & The L.A. Express, "King Cobra." Larry has turned in some awesome solos, but this is one of his best.
1 - Mark "Drac" Hicks, Slave, Slide. Wicked, insane.

Grrr, it won't let me put links in for these next few. There are YouTube videos of these, although one is a compilation of NASA footage and another is still photographs. The others are actual performances.

Charles Pitts with Isaac Hayes, Cafe Regio's, from "Shaft" original soundtrack
John Tropea with Deodato, Also Sprach Zarahustra (Theme from "2001"), from Prelude
Dickey Betts with Allman Brothers Band, Ramblin' Man (video)
and
Don't act like you didn't see this one coming.
Russ Freeman, The Rippingtons, Dream of the Sirens, from Kilimanjaro (video is from Live in L.A.).
Russ could be on here multiple times. A short list includes Carnival, Avenida Del Mar, Indian Summer, Taos.

RONNIE MONTROSE "VOYAGER" GAMMA2 OR BEST OF GAMMA. Joe Satriani-Bells of LaL from Flying in a Blue Dream Jimmy Page-"Stairway To Heaven" Page when at his best(read:NOT drunk or smacked out)-IS the best. Page improvised this solo-took three passes and used the best of the three. What a perfect flawless solo. STILL gives me the chills when I hear it.

I don't understand why it's not letting me link videos any more.
Oh, well.
Steve Lukather, Toto, "Hold the Line" (honorable mention for Pamela)
Santana, "Da Le (Yaleo)" from Supernatural (there's an awesome live performance of this with a guitar-neck-mounted camera)
Jeff Lynne, Electric Light Orchestra, "Roll Over Beethoven" from Electric Light Orchestra II
