To steal the funny line from the mockumentary "A Mighty Wind" the thread concerning Media Influence and the other reguarding Immigration law in Arizona- "Wha Hoppen?" Did I miss something during the week that I was away from Magic Island? Please bring me up to speed here. Seems those two threads were actually bringing life and activity here.

after numerous complaints,we have made a decision that politcal posting is not in line with this board. Yes I agree— and after numerous complaints, have decided to remove the 2 political topics, as they really have no place on Magic Island, which has always been about music and musicians.
The whole concept of Magic Island (as shown by the name!) has been for it to be a good-vibe place where people can share their enthusiasm about the music they love.
Thanks,
Tony

With that understanding, do we need an advisory of some kind? That's so the next time one of us gets a burr under his saddle about something, he won't start a new thread about, say, oil spills or global warming.

It's generally a good idea not to discuss religious and political views with strangers. Both have been the source of many fights among strangers.

Nothing to advise except that we do not want political posting.
You can discuss the ecology or the oil spill or whatever, but if people start volleying posts and arguing over FOX vs CNN, or Democratic vs Republican - and the thread takes a political turn, then we will have to PM and ask the participants to stop.
I'm sure that there are other places to debate politics.
Thank you all in advance.

I know the decision and move has been made and some minds wil remain rigid--and-ultimately-It`s no biq deal,BUT-- before the censorship of free expression of thought, was exercised. maybe, perhaps, just maybe. the ones who whined about the thread should have been confronted with the question: "WHYare you powerin up your computer, logging in to Magic Island, then purposely logging in to threads you do not like? Who put a gun to your head?" LOL!! It reminds me of Dylan`s question in Scorcese`s documentary about His Bobness going from acoustic folk to electric rock-in "No Direction Home": "WHY do these fans keep paying good money to come to my concerts and BOO? You`d think they`d stay home!" LMAO!!! Just food for thought and a reminder that this IS the OFF TOPIC area of MI, and that the the two threads, as well as the health care thread had possibly THE most activity in the past 12-18 months. Paraphrasing Spock "Does the whining of the few outweigh the views of the many?"ROTFL!!!!

I concur! Here's another musical site where the political discussions get pretty heavy: The Political Party

The decision has been made, and I accept it. That's the way it is when you're on somebody else's property, so to speak. Still, I'm having trouble understanding the logic. I don't see how discussions about politics or news media are any more at odds with MagicIsland being about music than discussions about football, television, movies, books, etc. And, like Paul, I wonder about the lurkers who aren't participating in the controversial discussions in the first place, but believing that their experience is ruined by said discussions - ruined to the point that they demand action. It says a lot about people, eh. Oh, well. Moving along.

Just a comment. The political threads turned into almost exclusive discussions between 6 to 8 people. The tone of the volleys may have been acceptable to those participating in the threads - but it changed the vibe of the board, and the decision was made.
I understand the disappointment - but we would prefer that MagicIsland stays as a "good vibe" place - for non-political discussion.
Thanks in advance.

I agree with the ban. The discussion was rarely constructive and we ended up talking in circles. Same ole, same ole.....sort of like 50 pages on WMD's, the war, Bush lied, millions died, etc...

Steve, we are in agreement about talking in circles, but I must say you crack me up. See PM for details.

Yep we are on the island and let us try to keep the vibe good....i just hope that we don't find out this whole 11 years has been one dream sequence leading to a final episode intimating that we are all in heaven or somethhin....though MI CAN seem like heaven quite frequently....
LOST reference, paul
