Well, the World Cup started today, which is a big deal for all of us soccer/football fans. Mexico and South Africa started things off with a 1-1 tie. Peace and goodwill.

Soccer is a sport that Americans don't care much about because it's not one of the primary sports here in the USA. Our best athletes play American football or basketball. Otherwise, we would kick everyone's butt in that sport too.

It's a sport adult Americans don't care much about. Youth soccer is very popular.

People in general enjoy soccer worldwide. I think when it comes to watching games on television, U.S. people only get interested during the Olympics and the World Cup.

The USA tied England 1-1! I am very happy about that. Peace and goodwill.

That is probably true of the general population, but I suspect there are a few pockets of the country where it is popular. Or not on the level of football or baseball but still enjoyed. Here in northern Indiana we are lead by the Notre Dame program which for years has been very good in both men's and women's programs. Couple that with a number of small colleges that do not field football teams but do well with soccer. You will never see the following that comes with traditional American sports but it is growing.

Have these games been invaded by locust? What is that annoying sound?

The annoying sound is many people blowing plastic horns. I was hoping that FIFA would ban them from the stadiums, but they chose not to. Peace and goodwill.

Oh well, the second half of Mexico vs. France is about to start.

The USA was robbed of a winning goal. But FIFA will do nothing about it, like usual. Peace and goodwill.

The offside call on the goal/non-goal was close. I wouldn't second guess that part of it.
But, and maybe this is my lack of understanding about the rules of soccer, there was a lot of holding going on that wasn't called. I thought players aren't allowed to wrap their arms around other players. On the controversial player, there were 2 Slovenian players holding USA players before the kick.

FIFA won't do anything because they are ruled by U.S.A. haters of the same mindset as the referee that made the flagrant call. The world would have a conniption if the U.S.A. were to ever win this contest.

That says a lot about much USA soccer has improved when they have to cheat to keep USA from winning.

It reminds me of that great Get Smart line--something to the effect of `we have to help these countries with our money and militarity and charity...otherwise they`d have no reason to hate and resent us!` Thank God the USA overcame the bad call and bias and the BS--A VERY LAST MINUTE GOAL-AND THE USA ADVANCED TO THE SWEET 16! GOOD ON YA USA.

Yikes! It seems the World Cup refs dislike England as much as they dislike USA.
