Sorry, point of fact; it was proven long ago that Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. You were misinformed. Those guys were mostly Saudis, and mostly funded by Saudis.

Nearly half the country believes otherwise. That half is also misinformed.

Best,

Steve C.

Actually you are correct but it is all hindsight. It was an intelligence failure and Bush took 100% responsibility even though Congress voted for and supported his move into Iraq.

If you wish to ressurect the Iraq War thread, go back 8 years and dig that thread up. Let's keep this one on track about healthcare.

Was just addressing the previous post, which had conflated the issues.

...just returned from Disney World...LOTS of people there - surprising when our economy is so bad...and I wonder how many of those tourists will claim that they can't afford basic healthcare (catastrophic events are another issue)...saw lots of money being spent on pretzels and beer and junky plastic toys, and making little girls into princesses and little boys into pirates...I'm all for fun and games, but I'm just sayin'...priorities..IMO no healthcare plan is going to work well until people get their priorities straight...I'm still hoping that we don't toss the baby out with the bathwater...we must be careful what we wish for...

As soon as health care passes, the American people will see immediate benefits. The legislation will:

* Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans;
* Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool;
* Prohibit dropping people from coverage when they get sick in all individual plans;
* Lower seniors prescription drug prices by beginning to close the donut hole;
* Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage;
* Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all plans;
* Require plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26;
* Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing;
* Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions;
* Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs.

By enacting these provisions right away, and others over time, we will be able to lower costs for everyone and give all Americans and small businesses more control over their health care choices.

The Top Ten Immediate Benefits You’ll Get When Health Care Reform Passes

I'm expecting a few Republican to show some leadership and vote for this legislation. The Democrats need to act like a majority!

This legislation taxes tanning bed users so John Boehner is very upset about that one.

One might argue that a trip to Disney World is in fact a part of good health care. I understand what is you are saying about priorities, but at the same everyone needs a little R&R now again to keep your sanity. Who is to say that most of those there did not save or budget for the trip?

I just had a curious thought and please don't take this the wrong way.....but if going to the resort was a bad thing...why were you there?

I get what you're saying, Dave, and it's a good question, although she need not answer if she doesn't want to.
I think everyone, regardless of what they think about health care legislation, needs to step back and take a wide-angle view of things.
It seems most of the speeches, protests and even comments in this forum are narrowly focused. That's not to say that those who have expressed opinions for or against haven't looked at the overall impact. Quite the contrary. But I do believe many of the things said, for or against, are fueled by focusing on one thing (for much of the opposition, that one thing can either be the buzz word "socialism" or the simple fact that Democrats are in charge) and if people would stop and think about it before they say it, we'd see a lot less anger and, one can hope, a little more thoughtfulness.

"I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the same coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors." -- Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, July 12, 1810

It's a great start to fixing a longstanding problem. Of course, the Republicans will come out and say things like "backroom deals" and "not what the people wanted".

The original constitution itself came about through many compromises among its framers. True leaders don't always agree with everything but work together with those they disagree with to achieve the best possible outcome under the circumstances. The fact that no Republican voted for this legislation tells me that they are more concerned about a party than the people they claim to represent.

Our congressmen were elected to make decisions on behalf of the people. That means it's their job to read and be a part of any legislation.

The Republicans were shut down at every turn in attempting to offer cost savings solutions and modifications to the current system. The party of "NO" was adament about ram-rodding this bill through regardless of public opinion.

Large majorities of Americans oppose this legislation because it offends the historic American dedication to the principle of self-government. They understand that this new law will accelerate Washington's intrusion into our most personal and private decisions.

The reason government-run health care has been the holy grail of the left for decades is that liberals realize it is a giant step toward the creation of a European-style welfare state. This is an evolution Americans have always resisted because it is alien to our national character.

Yes, 32 million people will gain the theoretical right to health insurance. But over half of that coverage comes from placing at least 16 million more Americans into Medicaid, an unpopular and overextended welfare program that already rations care.

Next up for Obama, amnesty of all illegal aliens with an open invitation for millions more despite 11% unemployment.

The House of the People has voted on the matter. The "Yay" votes surpassed the "Nay" votes. The people's representatives were elected to study the facts and make decisions based on current needs and not imagined fears. A leader can't make decisions based on poll results or popular opinion. Perhaps, you would prefer the people to "Text In" their votes like on American Idol.
