Hmm, that is an interesting point, one that I had not considered. I suppose you would have define just what possession is and then perhaps give the defender some more rights to go after the ball as well. Frankly many of the pass interference calls that are made are silly in my mind. Don't get me wrong I do think the guys should come down with the ball, though I prefer the one foot in rather the NFL required two. I would also like a return to counting a catch if the defender pushes an airborne receiver out of bounds. But I would also like to see some change in the rules for rushing touchdowns. But rules are rules and as long as they apply to all and are enforced fairly, then that is the way we shall play the game.

Damn the Super Bowl is only a week past and I miss football already . We need some more of those rich cats with too much time and money on their hands to start up another spring league to satisfy our hunger for the sport!

The game may not be played next season if the players and owners do not come to an agreement over collective bargaining. There may also be an uncapped season which means the sky is the limit.

3 Super Bowls lift Tom Brady past Manning as QB of decade

It is hard to argue against either one of these and of course any choice is going to be highly subjective. But let me offer this to the discussion. Much is made of Super Bowl wins and they can not be over looked, but Super Bowl's are more often one on the basis of team effort not individual. If all other this being equal then you look to Super Bowl wins as a tie breaker.

Classic point if define greatness by winning a Super Bowl then Bears former QB Jim McMahon would defined as a great one, when in fact he was at best an self centered slightly above average quarterback who played on a really good team.

Manning gets the nod from me with the four MVP awards which of course are somewhat subjective in their own. I saw a comment somewhere recently that said a good quarterback can fit into any system and win, but in Manning's case HE IS THE SYSTEM.

Let's face it as we look back on the season past and look forward to next season, we all have our favorites and could all make cases for who is the best. But those four MVP's and the fact that we see him getting into the heads of D.C.'s more and more makes him my choice.

I'd agree with you, Dave, except for one thing. I mean, your points are all good ones. But as for my pick. I wouldn't give it to Brady for 3 Super Bowls any more than I'd give it to Roethlisberger for 2, or Brees because he beat Manning in the last Super Bowl.
But what did Brady do in the years when his team didn't win the Super Bowl? Still pretty darned impressive. I like Manning better, and when it comes to watching a QB perform, he may be my favorite of all time. Ultimately, I might still choose Manning as QB of the decade, but I can't argue with Brady's selection.

When a team starts the season, the penultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning has come up short in helping his team achieve its top goal. Brady has the stats and the rings that trump Manning.

The Saints just gave everyone the blueprint to beating the Colts. The Colts are a very routine oriented team. The key to beating them is to study them well enough to recognize their routine well enough to make a decision. The Colts are not a team where you can take a wait and watch approach. You have got to attack them based on what you know about them. Take the pick six Manning threw to Tracy Porter, for example. Porter had studied the Colts so well that he was able to make a key decision. Manning is a robot! You could put Matt Schaub with the Colts and acieve about the same results.

Peyton Manning came up short again. His MVPs makes him almost as good as Tom Brady.

Ars, the choice between these two is a difficult one to make and I like Brady very much he is one hell of a QB, in the end the question of who is the QB of the decade means little except for bragging rights for people like you and me.

I will take exception to one statement you made however. Manning does not win because of the system around him, You cannot just plug in another QB in that team and get the same results. A fact that will no doubt be born out in a few years when he decides to retire. There is no one who studies and understands the game better then he does. There may be QB's out there who actually will have more talent then he has, but not the understanding or the commitment to the game that he has. He makes everyone around him that much better.

Quarterback of the year? Quarterback of the decade? Quarterback of all time? I really don't care about any of that in the end. Come Sunday afternoon, I just know he is the guy I want leading my team.

Au contraire, there is only 32 yards of offensive difference between Schaub and Manning. Schaub did it with only one good receiver. Imagine the offense, Schaub and Rothlisberger would put up behind the Indy offensive line. Big Ben would have a third ring like Tom Brady!
