About 8 or 9 new Ripps videos have appeared on Youtube this week. Looks like clips from two different shows if you search and sort by newest.

LOL. Rico looks a little goofy up there. I guess in time he'll settle in! smile

Rico's not goofy - he's just "doing the Rico" as only Rico can! : ) I've seen him perform with the Ripps 8 times and IMO he has settled in quite nicely already.

The head bob is even better when his feet start moving at the same time - one day Kat and I are going to figure out how to do it!

On the subject of video, I have been ordering jazz videos from Netflix over the past few weeks, just watched Candy Dulfer and got to thinking at the Rippingtons. I have the VHS video of the live LA show from a few years back. But my VHS player long ago died. Anybody know where one might get the VHS transfered to a DVD format? I have started collecting a number of these live performances and wish more the smooth jazz artists did them more often. The first Ripps concert video was great.

Hi,

Just a quick note:
I finally obtained an appropriate device (yeah, JVC DVD recorder!) to dub from VCR to DVD a music clip that I have kept for a loooong time and just uploaded it on youtube.com.

But I didn't know it would take THAT long time to complete the uploading process....well, but I believe it's worth it.

I hope you enjoy it!

to post a video... click the video icon to the left of the "bullets".

It's the 5th icon from the left. there are 4 types of video - when you select it - you need the URL of the video. Just copy it from the video and paste it in.

URLs are the things that start with http://

Highlight your URL, then press CTRL and C simultaneously

When you paste it in the window here, press CTRL and V simultaneously.

I like it better when you do it for me! But I did just learn how to repair my connection when it goes down - so I'm heading in the right direction! ; ) Hopefully I'll figure it all out before the boys leave for college and Mike leaves me for a trophy wife - otherwise I will have to hire you to be my full time computer guru! : )

Yes Yes Yes!!! This is the Rippingtons I grew to love! I miss this type of songwriting! Thank you for sharing that! Where did you get these vids? I would love to compile them all and create a dvd!

DWBass,

This was broadcasted back in 1991 on Japanese TV and I just recorded it on my VCR.

At that time, Japan was in the middle of bubble economy and most of the securities companies earned BILLIONS of dollors to spend on something entertaining to common people (I guess). So there were numerous really good jazz festivals throughout Japan (and even in the pacific islands like Hawaii).

For example, Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival around that time invited so many famous, fantstic musicians and I don't think they can do the same thing right now...it must be so expensive.

Getting back to the Hawaii Music Festival, I think the company that actually sponsored this festival went bankruptcy a couple of years later...

Hello all,

I uploaded another video from Hawai'i Jazz Festival(1991) on youtube.com:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_I_8U7p6SI

This is a jam session at the very end of the concert that includes Russ and Jeff in addition to Sadao Watanabe(sax), Paul Jackson Jr.(g), Nathan East(b), Soichi Noriki (g), Steve Reid(per), Alex Acuna(per), and Peter Erskine(ds).

Probably this is the only video I have known where Russ is jamming with other musicians! (Unfortunately they cut the first part of Russ's solo...) The entire song is too long to upload as one clip so I had to cut it a little. Sorry for the choppy ending!
