Monday, KKSF FM radio, the Bay areas Smooth Jazz station changed formats. However, 2 weeks ago, Dayton Ohio's Smooth Jazz station, 106.5 smooth jazz flipped to country music.

According to a letter distributed by the VP of Marketing for the Dayton Ohio clear channel station. "The decision to change formats was based on the minimal appeal the station had reaching a large number of listeners and consumers."

How many radio stations are still broadcasting smooth jazz?

I don't see what the fuss is, honestly. I do understand that some people love the music that fits into the format, but given the opinions offered on the format itself, does anybody really care when another "smooth jazz" station bites the dust? Most of them didn't play much smooth jazz to begin with. Soft pop and R&B oldies got more play than anything remotely connected to jazz.
I say good riddance because it never lived up to its name.

Jazzwriter,

I couldn't have echoed sentiments more succinctly than that.

The format went into the proverbial tank years ago.

I'd just assume listen to Internet radio like Bay Smooth Jazz, FM 5280, or smoothjazz.com.

Or XM and my CDs.

That suffices quite nicely.

Signed,

Eric V.
