The album's "CD 101.9" tribute song got a mention on the
New York Radio Message Board.
Was listening to Steve Bauer's Smooth Jazz USA program this morning on The Penthouse Radio and he played a new song from Dutch alto-saxophonist Candy Dulfer. The song is a tribute to New York's former home of smooth jazz, titled "CD101.9". It includes a short "aircheck" of the first time they played one of her songs.
Since that radio station no longer exists [Mike C. NOTE: except on an HD2 channel], and most of us missed her doing a couple nights at the Blue Note last week, you can hear the song Sunday evening at 6pm on ThePenthouse.fm.
I replied:
I love that song. It's on her latest album, "Funked Up." The aircheck is from 1991 and features Russ Davis. Based on what he was saying, Candy was performing live in the studio and taking a break. The line about needing "roofing experts in here [the studio] to put the roof back on top" to describe how great she sounded was a bit much, but a good one.
