My second successful upload:
Interview with Michael Winslow Please forgive the poor framing. This is the result of two forces working against me. One being a camera without a monitor. To see what I'm shooting, I have to look through the viewfinder from behind the camera - impossible, considering I'm up on the stage with Michael, about 6 feet in front of the camera. I pre-positioned it to frame the shot, but the woman in the video, Tracy, was modeling for me, and I asked her to use her ID badge to mark the spot where she was standing, to indicate where I should stand. She moved it, so I had to guess. The other being that without Michael in the frame when I first lined up the shot, I was unsure of how tight to zoom in.
The bad framing could have been compensated for if the shot were in tighter on his head and shoulders. Notice, there's a couple of points where either Tracy or Michael's assistant repositioned the camera to make sure his head wasn't cut off.
In hindsight, I should have gone with my gut and went handheld. That's what I normally do if I'm just trying to get a sound byte from a police spokesman, fire investigator or public official. But it's generally better to use a tripod for a longer interview.
Still, I enjoyed meeting him. And I must tell you, the performance was exceptional.
