No, nothing's wrong with my account. It's still active, but some screwy things have happened with my home computer, and I'm clueless where to begin looking.
For starters, I realized two weeks ago today that I could not even access MagicIsland, let alone post a message. This has happened at least twice before. Once was after the Island upgraded the site. I could read but not post. I had to get admin's help to get a new password because I couldn't remember the old one (it was one of those assigned thingies).
Then just a few months ago, I was totally blocked from the site. With some help from Kat and Tony, it was determined that a virus scan that came with my Earthlink package was blocking me. I had to uninstall it and reinstall it with a closer eye on settings. That worked.
Now, I am totally befuddled as to what happened.
I haven't installed in new applications or any application upgrades - unless you count those all-too-frequent security updates from Firefox, but that shouldn't matter because a) that update happened on a Tuesday, and I wasn't blocked from MagicIsland until Friday; b) Netscape and Internet Explorer are also blocked.
I've tried everything I know to do, including doing a system restore back to 2 weeks before I got blocked. Nothing. I got a message saying "no changes" had occurred to my computer during that time, so it didn't restore.
That leads me to believe the problem is elsewhere. I want to rule out the Island's upgrade because the new features were only added last week; I was blocked week before last.
Oh, and in case you're wondering why I didn't use the old account on this computer, it's the password thingy. I normally keep old e-mails that have info like that. And I remember looking at the one that had my MagicIsland password the same weekend I got blocked, so I could insert it into another browser. My intention was to e-mail it to myself at work.
No can do. Suddenly, that e-mail and several others I had been saving are no longer in my inbox or my trash folder.
Something else weird. The same weekend I got blocked from the Island, Firefox erased all my bookmarks. The history folded still remembered every site I had visited within the previous 9 days, but not one bookmark - not even to my e-mail accounts - was saved.
Maybe the two are related. Maybe not. I have no idea what's going on.
So here I am. Same product, different package.
