I was wondering, why does Brian Hughes get such little attention by most terrestrial radio stations? He is one of my favorite guitarists. The Weather Channel is actually what made me a fan of his music, where it is often featured. However, he rarely gets any attention from terrestrial radio stations.

I don't think I have actually ever heard one of his songs on our current smooth jazz station in Albuquerque that was launched in 2006. Mostly, you will only hear his music on TWC (if the current monthly playlist features his music) and on XM's Watercolors.

It's not just Brian. Few artists are getting terrestrial radio play these days because nobody is playing new music, or, for that matter, ANY music anyone wants to hear.

Same here in Germany. Top 100 and nothing else. What a culture.

Nobody gets radio play. That's one reason radio is over. It abandoned music. He gets played on a few brunch shows, indie stations and the like but the bottom line is that his music is too interesting to fit a format.

TWC got me into him, too. He got quite a bit of airplay on "The Mike Chimeri Show," and an interview, too.

Based in Canada and pretty much confining himself to the West Coast music scene could have something to do with his lack of "airplay." I think if he could support his releases with a wider touring area he may get more deserved attention. I don't believe he's ever been to the East Coast. There are a lot of neweer Performing Arts centers springing up that I feel pretty sure would result in a lot of bookings.

Hasn't touring, doing "live" shows, helped other contemporary jazz bands maintain their fanbase? Could work for Brian as well.

Agree/disagree?

Radio is what it is. It's pretty much of a no-brainer that many of the best c-jazz artists have few outlets for their music.
