Everyone,

Jeff Lorber's debut for Peak Records "Heard That" will be out on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The CD has one cover, of British singer Amy Winehouse's track called "Rehab."

"Rehab," this being an instrumental cover version by the way, was mixed by Paul Brown and features Rick Braun on trumpet.

The rest are originals, including the title track, "Heard That," which was co-written by saxophonist Eric Darius.

Other track titles are: "Don't Hold Back," "Gamma Rays," "Don't Stop Now," and "The Bomb."

This is Lorber's follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Blue Note release that came out last year, "He Had A Hat," which had the hot single "Anthem For A New America."

The CD is a mix of pure funk and soul, what you'd expect from Lorber . . . and more. It was co-produced by Rex Rideout of Club 1600 fame.

Well, that's it from here.

Signed,

Eric Viccaro

"Rehab"? Oh, darn. Well, maybe I'll like his cover. It has to be better than the original. And don't get me started on Amy Winehouse. Poor woman. frown
That aside, I'm looking forward to this album.

I really like He Had a Hat, and I hope his new one is as good. So much good music, so little time. Peace.

There's a preview of the title track on the homepage for Jeff Lorber's website.
It sounds great; like a throwback to the Jeff Lorber Fusion days. In fact, it almost sounds like "City" at a slower tempo. And I love the dog on the album cover. grin

I heard "Rehab" on Jeff's MySpace page. It is better than the original; exponentially better. Jeff gave it a Les McCann/Ramsey Lewis feel. I love it!

I have now heard much of "Heard That" twice, and a few tracks three or more times. I am very satisfied with the album...even "Rehab," which, as I said, is "exponentially better" than the original. It's going to take a while for me to accept "Take Control." Yes, it has some of the old "Night Love" harmony (or melody?), but it has those bedroom escapade (to put it one way) lyrics.
My copy of the album was waiting for me on my front porch when I returned from South Florida (Boynton Beach) late Wednesday afternoon. (I was down there for my grandfather's 80th birthday.) "Come On Up" has come to symbolize my return to Long Island; it was the first thing I heard once I sat down at my computer after several minutes of unpacking.
