I am ashamed I didn't think of this sooner. Am taking the wifey on the 7/30 Smooth Jazz Cruise out of NYC with Spyro Gyra in honor of our first date at a Spyro Gyra concert on 2/13/81!!
Anyone have any insider connections that can help make it special for her/us?? We'll be getting there early, but in NY it never seems early enough. Appreciate anything.

have fun.... I'll be on the 9:30 cruise. If you're on that one, I'll be the person with the large camera... wink

I was on the 6:30 cruise. Lots of cameras aboard that one, but I had a mini-tripod which I held like a rod. It was useless, though, since I did a lot of standing up. I've set up to post a recap on my blog. So far, the post is merely a reminder of a full recap later today or tomorrow and a picture of Tom Schuman and myself ("...and I"?).
Both sets of passengers had the young woman performing solo sax while they waited to board, walking back and forth through the line.

Thanks for the entry in your blog, Mike -- I enjoyed reading through the set list and also the picture of you and Tom Schuman. He looks good.

I've never been on such as cruise before, so if anyone would like to describe what the experience is like, that would be interesting -- I was surprised to read that it's a "weekly cruise" and it sounds like it's just a few hours...

Mike,

I didn't get to the pier until just before 9 PM last night. It was a very hectic day that had me stuck in rush hour traffic on I-95 and I had a work related emergency hit me at 5PM.

BTW, I thought the street musician thing was annoying. Not only was she a bad sax player, but the outright looking for donations thing was sad.

The band sounded fantastic last night... glad you were able to get some pictures and write about it on your blog.

I have not unloaded my camera, and I have another event to shoot tonight.... crazy week.... I also have a trip to Greenwich Village for the Metro shows this coming weekend.

I didn't even know she was looking for donations. I thought she was just a warm-up. Honestly, she was annoying. At that point, I just wanted to board the ship. And it sounded like she played the same song on a continuous loop. She wasn't too bad, though. With some accompaniment, I'm sure she'd be fine. But the chatty women behind me in line were more annoying than the musician.
My Mom, Dad, and I left by car at about 4:15 and arrived at about 5:30.
The band was great. Outside of Dharma All Stars and Natural Selection, I've never stood as close (when taking pictures, anyway) during a concert/gig as I did last night.

You're delayed welcome, Rafa.
Kat, judging by the pictures you posted in the pictures section, Julio changed shirts for the late cruise.
