Hello gang-
This may be a little out of the ordinary, but thought this may be a good place to post something like this.

Artist is Andrew Rogers. Style is harder rock mostly.

Keyboard player and assistant worship leader (and friend) has written several tunes and arrangements, a couple of which we've played live a few times.
Well, he's finally put together some songs on his website for free download (low fi)or purchase (better fi).

His vocals have improved a lot over the past couple years, and his playing is very good. I think most of the instruments are played via his Motif keyboard and some drum sampling. Another good friend of ours did the mastering.

So, with the warning that this is blatantly religious, Christian rock, (something you probably WON'T hear on pop/CCM radio)let me know what you think if you decide to hit the site.

I like the tunes but I have to ask, is he in a dark place at this time? All the tunes seem to be sad sounding!

He can't help but deal honestly with life's struggle and pain, and they've had some-I think it shows in the song choices.
One of those is a very old hymn redone.
He is a very serious guy, especially about his music too.

But, he can crack wise with the rest of us, and usually laughs a lot at practices.

Overall, I'd say he's a happy dude, just has to deal with work and life, and things are tight right now.

Interesting observation, DW- I'll check into it more.

Thanks for checking it out!

Jazzman65-
Thanks for checking it out.
Glad you're liking it!
I burned a CD of the tunes today, so I could listen to it on different systems; it sounded awesome on the home theater. There's lots of background vocal overlays and such, adds a lot to it.

DW- had lunch with him today, and he's fine, just said angst makes for a better songwriter \:D

He's going to put up two more fairly soon, I'll let you know when that happens. He's trying to use the live drummer and our female harmony singer on those- heard samples of it today, it's good stuff.

gotta go-

Cool. I'd really like to hear something a bit more upbeat from him.

DW- my avatar's working, and I can see yours...

Bruce- I think you may have posted in the wrong thread here....The bass lines in these songs of Andrew's are all keyboard; I did inspire a change or two, \:D but it's all Andrew.

By the way, the software he's using for editing etc is Cubase.
Sounds pretty good to me. One of the upcoming songs, when I was listening to it at his studio, there's a female background vocal that was a bit sharp; one click later, it was perfect. Just what the American Idol contestants need to get rid of being "pitchy" \:D

I listened to the four songs.

I think musically it was fine. The first tune kind of dragged for me. But the second one was interesting because it slowly built intensity and had new sounds that kept my attention.

The third one lost me early due to the slow beginning.

The last one was interesting -- I liked his harmonies.

There were moments when the mix of vocals and slower rock/distortion reminded me a lot of Creed.

About him going through a dark time -- my brother (a formerly signed musician with MCA for 10- years, if I may brag without taking any credit at all:) ) believes musicians pump out a lot of songs when they are hurting or have been through an emotionally trying experience. It wouldn't surprise me if this was true with Andrew. And yes, this is something you listen to when you're not depressed or it could make you feel that way.

Which isn't all bad -- I think good art evokes emotion, among other things.
