I do Sinatra/Buble too! \:D

One of my bands does a variety of stuff including some Sinatra/Buble stuff. I'd like to note that we do a mix of midi and live instruments. The singer is also the sax player but his level was too low to be heard during his solo.

Have at it.

Hey DW. That's cool. The way you look tonight in E flat, modulates a 1/2 step to E. Sounds like a Fender Jazz, full, round sound. To me, there are many basses that can and could be used, but when a bassist is using a Fender Jazz bass, the band sounds big and full, and it doesn't matter if it's jazz, funk, ballad, etc., 'cause that's what that bass was made for. The other bass that has that full round sound is a MusicMan Stingray. Jameson created that with a Jazz bass. Dave, you sound good, rich, and full.

Thanks, Bruce. It wasn't a Jazz bass but definitely single coil pickups which is the essence of the Fender Jazz. The key is the Michael Buble version.

Hey DW, I'm curious of the bass you used for it. Bro, you came across some nice pickups. Sounds like a Jazz.

It's a (Gibson era)Tobias Deluxe 5 string active bass but it has single coil jazz pickups. And I always run the eq as flat as I can (slight treble boost) so I can get as natural a sound as possible.

It makes sense to run the eq flat to me. with one of the local groups I perform with here, Hippstreet, we run the eq for the sound system flat for the same reason(or use very little eq), and that way, the musicians natural sound is heard, and with Hippstreet, the band's sound is naturally full.

Here's an old demo from my previous band that I also used this bass on.

Hey DW- do you normally wear your bass in that position? I like mine a bit lower so that my wrist isn't quite as pronated. Of course it changes with the shape of the bass, but...too much bend sets off my repetitive stress pains.

I like mine to be hanging on me (when I'm standing) in about the same place as it rests on my right leg when I'm sitting on a stool. Just one of those little things.

Just wondering, not criticizing.

I've had a heck of a time finding straps I really like that hold it just right...my Yammy is so heavy it'll give you a backache standing more than 20 minutes or so. The Warwick is a better fit, but not as "centered" on balance, which is why I like the Yamaha a bit better. There's gotta be a better way.

later

Well, since that is an older pic ('99 or '00) and I had no gut then, I do wear my bass a bit lower these days but not by much. Maybe 2 or 3 inches lower. I've always worn my bass high. It could also be the camera angle or I was in the middle of a riff so my wrist looks like it's really more pronated than it really is. I also play over the neck pickup. I see a lot of folks play over the bridge pickup which is straight down. The pic below may give a better representation of the way I play.
