Has anyone seen the tv show called "Extreme Makeover"? I watched it for the first time last night and I really enjoyed it. What made me watch it was that last week, a local Newcast made reference to the show in a related story that aired. The Newcast featured a little segment of "EM" in their related story, and I was able to see that "EM" dealt with people who needed serious reconstructive surgery. One person from the segement of "EM" that was shown on the Newscast had a clefted lip, and I knew from that, that "EM" was not a frivilous show about people who already looked half way decent, but wanted to become a "10" so that they could become "super" sexy. This show is about "real" people who have "real" physical flaws, who have been chosen to have their physical flaws corrected. From the episode that I saw last night, I thought the show was great. Plus, I thought the humanitarian gesture of wanting to help these people and the joy that was brought into the participants life, was really touching.

I have not seen it, in fact I hadn't even heard of it until last week when my coworkers were talking about it. I thought it was one of these makeover reality shows where, like you said they were trying to make people into 10's, I didn't know it was to help better people's lives. That is a very refreshing twist on the DIY/reality shows that seem to flood the airwaves.

Do they show the actual surgical procedures? That would be very interesting to me. I love seeing the before/surgery/after.

I must check my guide and see when it's on in my area. Thanks JG

the first EM was just about making regular looking people look HOT..BUT I would LOVE to get on that show!!!!

I really enjoy "What Not To Wear" on TLC..they don't do plastic surgery just wardrobe hair and makeup but they use regular looking people of all ages and sizes. Only one person so far has been stick thin. They take people with extremely imperfect features and make them look much better without surgery. I would like to go on that one too..especially since they give you 5000 bucks to shop for clothes in new York with...

Hi, Txjzlady. Yes they do show parts of the actual surgery(of course, squeamish me will turn my head at the really gross parts \:o ). It doesn't show too much though, but some. And Txjzlady, as you probably know by now, it airs on Wednesday nights(that's tonight) at 10:00 PM EST. And Shannon, thanks for letting me know that the first episode *was* about people just trying to look HOT. I'm wondering when they changed it over to the way it is now? I hope they keep it that way, it's a really nice show, nice change of pace. Also, I've never seen "What Not To Wear" before, but sometimes some of the talk shows have episodes like that and I've always found it amazing how they can transform these people with little or no fashion sense and make them come out looking fabulous.
