Both Sydney Pollack and Harvey Korman. Both extremely talented and well respected in their respective fields. A great loss to the creative arts community, and anyone who loves creative arts.

NBC's Tim Russert, perhaps my favorite broadcast journalist.

Charlie Jones, former NBC AFL/NFL play-by-play announcer, died yesterday at 78.
But back to Tim, I posted about his passing on my blog late this afternoon:

Stan Winston, the great special effects and make-up artist died over the weekend after a long battle with myeloma. He was 62. You may not know his name, but you know his work:

Jurrassic Park Series -
Terminator 2
Aliens
AI
Predator
Batman Returns
Edward Scissorhands
Pearl Harbor

And the list goes on. You've got to have some kind of imagination to come up with some of those creatures he did.

Charlie had such a distinctive voice. I think between him and Curt Gowdy is why I became such a fan of the AFC. I just enjoyed their NFL broadcasts - it didn't hurt that they also did baseball for NBC - better than the guys on CBS at the time.
And Stan Winston. What a mark he has made.

Cyd Charisse, one of the greatest dancers from Hollywood's Golden Era died on Tuesday. I believe the article said she was 86. She never got to be as famous as Ginger Rogers or Ann Miller, but she was just as good, if not better, IMO. Don't believe me? Check out "The Band Wagon" or "Silk Stockings."

So sorry to hear about George Carlin. He opened the door for a lot of comedians.
