Well, since there were a few people in here who are not beer drinkers, and they said they like wine instead, it's your turn....what wine(s) do you like to drink and why? Or does it depend on your mood, or what you eat, etc. like it does me?

Some of my faves are: Muller-Thurgau, a nice dry Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, some blushes that aren't too sweet and then, when I want reds, Chianti (especially when I eat Italian food), Merlot, Beaujoulais, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. I like some sparkling wines, as well ( technically, you are not supposed to call them "champagne" unless they come from that region of France). Some of my fave sparklings are: Laurel Ridge and Argyle, out of Oregon here and Perrier Jouriout ( I know I'm not spelling that right) out of France, when I can afford it, which is not often, unless Costco gets some and it's a steal, same thing with Dom Perignon!

So, who's next?

Thunderbird, Ripple, South Pacific, Bali Hai, Rythm, Mad Dog 20/20.

I think I'd better stick to my "Bud Lite" and let it go at that.

Peace

Well, white ones were my favorites (Gallo's White Grenache) untill i tried a red one from Spain Called "Matarromera". It's a good sweet dry wine with great taste. Also "Viña Mayor" is very good.

After leaving a large puddle of Bali-Hi in my neighbor's driveway at age 16, I swore off wine forever-(although not beer.)I haven't had wine 4 times since then that I can think of, and then only to be socially polite. (I did however recently try an apple beer called "K" that was similar to a wine, more of a sweet beer I guess. Not bad either, but I'll stick with Coors or Michs.)
So, if I ever need a mental image of a young dufus trying to impress a girl, that is one of several that pop up.........oddly, I don't remember her name, just the wine's!
HA!

Bassix that is so funny! Sounds as if your dislike for wine is just about as bad as mine for vodka is! Tell ya what, kiddo, you don't pass me no vodka and I will pass you no wine, how's that for a deal?

I am a light weight when it comes to wines. I have always prefered the sweet wines as opposed to the what america calls dry. Therefore I lean more toward the German varietals. I have enjoyed several good Merlots but not the Cabs. Give me a good Spaetlese Reisling. I have a great bottle from Chateau Yaldara, Adelaide Australia (they are actually old german vines and have been established for over 100 years). I picked it up on a trip last fall and do not want to drink the last bottle. I love Austalian wines and had a royal blast on the wine tours. I love those samples(hick up)and I will try anything (even a Cab) on a wine tour.

Then you guys would like the German varietal called Muller Thurgau, it's a white German wine that is sweet but dry. It's almost like biting into a super fresh batch of those nice green grapes! Wonderful stuff with a nice punch to it! Whew!

Yep, I like those Gewertztraminer's too! But I don't drink them too often since they're so sweet. I'm diabetic and had a mini stroke in 94' so I gotta be careful with the drinking. So I have about 1-2 glasses of wine, total, per week.

For the every day cheap stuff, we drink Forest Hills Cabernet or Merlot, or occasionally Barefoot Cab. On Fri/Sat's we frequently have BV Cabernet. And if I wan't a good bottle of wine that costs more than $15, I usually go with a french wine from the Medoc region where I went when I took a tour in France. I don't drink white anymore as it doesn't work with my system now for the above reason.

I also like to go to Trader Joe's and get a wine they recommend from the Bordeaux region of France from time to time for a really cheap price!

Cheers!
Linda

For any of you who want organically produced wines, I stumbled onto a website of a California Importer that gets them from the South of France at very reasonable prices. There are also a few here in Oregon that I will have to find out which one's they are....there was something on T.V. about them the other day, but my daugther was climbing all over me and hubby had just gotten home from work in a bad mood....OY, you know the kind of day I'm talking about, ladies with hubbies So needless to say, I got maybe about a 10th of what it was saying to me at the time But the French one, yeah, just e-mail me and I'll pass that info. along if you're interested....youngun39@yahoo.com

The best part about traveling abroad is that the wines at the small boutique wineries do not contain Phosphates - NO HANG OVERS. Once they start exporting to the states they add phosphates to preserve them and ta-da hang overs. So if you know someone that travels alot have them pick up your favorite overseas and enjoy the difference.

Hmmm....that's interesting, Cindy, then why do they put phosphates in domestic wines? I guess I will have to get in touch with my local wineries here, since I live in one of Oregon's top wine producing areas right now and find out why. Makes ya wonder, huh?

ok, anita i think i'm at the right place now. that was funny. wonder if i was the first to post on the wrong topic? so i'll repeat...

prefer red wines over white wines. they're a little too bitter and dry for me. i like the chardonnay's especially and wine coolers. it's the sweet taste i like so much. but mind you, i can only handle a 1/2 glass of wine because it will just knock me right out. and i usually drink wines and coolers on special occassions. i remember at my sister's pre-wedding party, we rented a limo and there was champagne served for all the ladies and they kept telling me "finish it" "finish it" they wanted to pour me more. they had downed their 1st 2nd and some 3rd rounds while i was still trying to swallow down my 1st 1/2 glass. sorry, can't hang, otherwise i'll be hanging on to you! i wasn't about to go to sleep, i was ready to go dancing!

so linda, txjazzldy 1/2 glass with that thai!
