I already asked the musicians what programs they use. I now am asking everyone what programs they use for cd-burning, mp3 listening, games, etc. Just being nosy. I'm asking because I was using Adaptec EZ CD burner but began getting mucho errors and began wasting a ton of blank cd's. I have now switched to Veritas MYCD/MYCD Pro which works differently. Instead of getting songs directly from the music cd, it takes the songs and ripps them to the harddrive and then burns to the blank (at 1-2x speed)! Very very slow but very efficient. 0 errors! Anone else care to share........

Well I bought my cd burner way back when a 6x2x2 cost $319 and have been using it ever since. It's a Memorex CRW-1622 and I'm using CD Maker Pro 95 software that came with it. I have problems every once in a while, but 95% of the time I don't. For mp3s, I use a program that's just called "Jukebox". It's nice cuz it can handle massive playlists and it can convert bitrates on mp3s or turn them into wavs. Oh and it can burn cds from mp3s too. Hehe, so don't be tellin' me that 2x is slow cuz that's what I'm using (hehe it's too slow but I don't want to spend money on a new one).

I use Hotburn, only because it came with the PC. So far so good.

This is a funny story - I ordered this PC from a place that more or less just assembles the components inside the case. It didn't even come with an OS. There was one CD in the box that contained the basic drivers. I couldn't get the sound card to work no matter what I tried. I came to the conclusion that it must've become disconnected from the mother board during shipping, so I decided to open the case. There inside (along with what you would expect to be there) were a couple manuals, another CD full with the correct sound drivers on it, and the Hotburn CD. I called their tech support line and asked if it was common practice to ship CDs inside a computer. The lady who answered was pretty incredulous.

That's hilarious Rob! They probably forfeited your warrenty though when you opened the case. They're dumb like that. A friend of mine opened the case to his computer because the cooling fan on the CPU stopped working (he knew because he couldn't hear it anymore). It turns out that there was a wire stuck on the fan that prevented it from turning. Anyway the company took away the warrenty because he quickly fixed his computer. If he hadn't, the company would have had to pay for a new CPU because it would have burned out. Well anyway, I build my own PCs so I don't worry about warrenties and BS like that.

Well for some reason, while using Adaptec EZ CD Creator, track 1 almost always has errors. I like Veritas but if it can burn faster than 1-2x it would be great. I like Adaptec because you can listen to a track before choosing it and it burns faster. With Veritas, I have to start windows cd player and listen to what I want. I hate taking extra steps. But my main beef is the burn speed.

David-
I use the Musicmatch Jukebox software- you can download the freebie version (got mine thru MP3.com), but I paid for the real thing and got the upgrade version-(20 bucks at the time) works well, converts MP3's on the fly, has lots of setting options in case your computer doesn't respond well, like disk caching etc.....does the job for me! You can set up a playlist in the order you want, and write either wav or mp3. As for speed, I think it burns around 4x, I just put it on the "max" speed setting and let it handle it. I burned 30 minutes worth of music in about 5 or 6 minutes last night, which is good enough for me. THe CD burner is an HP 8100+, 4 x 2 x 24 is what the documentation says, just in case it's that and not the software......At any rate, It does what I want it to do.

I have Music Match Jukebox. But does it handle .wav files?? I don't do anything with .mp3's. I'm just making up compilation cd's from my cd collection. Or should I just ripp them as .mp3's and then burn them to an audio cd? This is mainly just for car use anyway so the sound degradation won't be as apparent. I just want something error free and that burns at least 4x speed. If you know of anything, please holler, holler......

Peace

I use Adaptec EZ-CD Creator to do my burning, and have never had any problems with it. To convert formats, and turn my CD's into MP3's, I use a free program called CDEx, which you can find on www.download.com.

I also have CDex. I am tryin to avoid converting to .mp3 and then back to .wav to burn to an audio cd. Veritas is good but it's just the burn speed. SLOW!!

Dave, you can use CDEx to turn CD's directly into WAVs; they don't have to go to MP3 first. Besides, once you have gotten the songs you want from a CD, even if they are in MP3 format, converting to WAV is a really fast process with CDEx, if you have a decent computer.
