Since all of us here are huge music fans, I was curious as to how you prefer to listen to your music?

I, for one have found that I REALLY prefer the solitude of listening through audiophile quality headphones. Truly allowing me to get into my own little world. Speakers are fine for listening while multi-tasking, however for my serious listening sessions, usually at night after the wife and kids are all tucked in, I pull out one of my three sets of cans, plug them into my dedicated headphone amp, crank the volume, sit back and enjoy.

Headphones for me!! Unless I'm in my car of course.......Plus my wife doesn't dig my music (except the Rippingtons) so I wouldn't blast it in her presence anyway. She can't even stand when I'm practicing my bass skills. Espescially when I'm a slappin' and a poppin'!!

Peace

I am not an audiophile which is a good thing since after years of sticking my head in front of speakers (including at a Metallica concert) I dont even want to think of what kind of hearing loss I have. I am lucky, I live by myself in a house that is not jammed against other houses and my neighbors are not home in the daytime anyway so I can crank it up pretty loud. I like to know what is going on around me and one time years ago I was lying in bed with my headphones on and my roommates came in freaking out because someone had just run across the backyard..then we realized my screen was pulled out and the window had dents from being pried..If someones gonna break in I want to hear them before they do it.

Unless I'm just getting used to a new cd...I like it LOUD...so headphones is my preferance and it's usually during a long, sweaty stairmaster or bike workout. I have found that those yellow, plastic, Sony walkman headphones (I think MDL-20 is model #) are waterproof and virtually indestuctible. I use them hooked up to a regular stereo receiver and they kick ass and can handle the wattage. Jam those babys far up into your ears and the bass will knock your block off. Best $15.00 pair of headphones made. I've tried some of the other foam (senheiser, etc.) type and the sweat ruins them pretty quickly.

I prefer hedphones. There are certain "details" that you listen only with them. I have a pair of OLD Senheisers that still work very good!!!!!!

I'll take my music anyway I can get it. At work I'm usually in the car a good portion of the day and I crank it up, until the "other" radio goes off at least.

At home, while B.J.'s on the puter, I'll tone it down, but when I'm in one of my "listening" moods, it's headphones for me.

In the office, I prepare my reports with the music going, but softly (unfortunately).

As a Latin Jazz Buddy of mine says, "Viva La Musica".

Peace

Pete

Speakers during the day because most of my neighbors aren't home during the day, either and I can blast the stereo either while me and Cassie are doing stuff around the house or in the backyard in her kiddy pool or on her swingset. But, when hubby ( when he's home, which is close to never) and Cassie are asleep at night and I don't watch some good TV shows or old movies, I listen to my fave music under the headphones, so my answer is both! Aren't I a pain in the backside?

A little bit of both for me. Usually use the headphones late at night or if I am checking out something new. But since my wife does enjoy most of the stuff I play we use the speakers often. The preset eq on the home theatre system has a jazz club setting that sounds really nice. I noticed at one of music super stores that they are putting out some cds with dolby surround claiming to have a much enhanced sound. Seems to be a limited number of selections, think I will have to check out one and see just how much different the sound is. Hey any every try using wireless headphones? Been looking at some, but have concerns. about sound quality. At 50 bucks or so I would hope for something good.

Wireless headphones come nowhere near the sound quality that wired cans do. The best I have heard are the Sennheiser RS80 at around $280.00. I would avoid them unless wireless is absolutely necessary. Not only do you lose sonically with wireless, but I found that you constantly have to fine tune the receiver in the headphone unit to avoid static. I had my RS80s for about a week before I returned them.

I play all my music off my computer, and I have a really good speaker system from Altec Lansing. It only cost $80 CDN after tax, and it has really good bass quality. I also use WinAmp (www.winamp.com) as my player, and it has good equalization features, so I can get my music to sound the way I want it.

Interesting question-
For most of the day, (since I work from home) music is pumping out of my old EPI speakers that are hooked to my computer- I just couldn't bear to throw them away when we built our house,(I had a Bose surround sound setup built-in) so they get most of the duty. When the wife's at work and the kids are at school, and it is lunch break, I throw a CD on the Bose system and rock out- especially the new Spyro Gyra!!!!!
When I'm working late (pretty normal) I use a set of Radio Shack headphones- no kidding, they are excellent for the $- beats my old Koss set hands down! They had them on sale a while back, get 2 for 1, so my daughter can use them to play her computer games with and not disturb me whilst working.
So I guess the short answer is "all of the above"- but I prefer my Bose to anything else if I can get the privacy.
Now I am like David, when I'm practicing my bass, it's headphones only- drives my wife nuts to hear it too much. And hey, I need a lot of practice, so it's the only way!
Later

I use headphones when I preview, but when I'm listening for pleasure, when I have time, I like it loud enough to feel, but not so loud that it hurts. Since I live in a rural area, neighbors are not a concern. On the patio I fire up two 800 watt amplifiers with a 64 ch eq and run two Yamaha subs, each with a pair of 15's, two Yamaha mid's with 15's and horns and a pair of Peavy 15's. It's a back yard concert that can be heard a half mile away. When listening inside the home, I have my own studio, but the family uses the old Bose 901's and a pair of Sansui's I got back in the 70's while in the Air Force. Still luvineveryminuteofit
