Speaker or Headphones?

Since all of us here are huge music fans, I was curious as to how you prefer to listen to your music?
I, for one have found that I REALLY prefer the solitude of listening through audiophile quality headphones. Truly allowing me to get into my own little world. Speakers are fine for listening while multi-tasking, however for my serious listening sessions, usually at night after the wife and kids are all tucked in, I pull out one of my three sets of cans, plug them into my dedicated headphone amp, crank the volume, sit back and enjoy.

Headphones for me!! Unless I'm in my car of course.......Plus my wife doesn't dig my music (except the Rippingtons) so I wouldn't blast it in her presence anyway. She can't even stand when I'm practicing my bass skills. Espescially when I'm a slappin' and a poppin'!! Peace

I am not an audiophile which is a good thing since after years of sticking my head in front of speakers (including at a Metallica concert) I dont even want to think of what kind of hearing loss I have. I am lucky, I live by myself in a house that is not jammed against other houses and my neighbors are not home in the daytime anyway so I can crank it up pretty loud. I like to know what is going on around me and one time years ago I was lying in bed with my headphones on and my roommates came in freaking out because someone had just run across the backyard..then we realized my screen was pulled out and the window had dents from being pried..If someones gonna break in I want to hear them before they do it.

Unless I'm just getting used to a new cd...I like it LOUD...so headphones is my preferance and it's usually during a long, sweaty stairmaster or bike workout. I have found that those yellow, plastic, Sony walkman headphones (I think MDL-20 is model #) are waterproof and virtually indestuctible. I use them hooked up to a regular stereo receiver and they kick ass and can handle the wattage. Jam those babys far up into your ears and the bass will knock your block off. Best $15.00 pair of headphones made. I've tried some of the other foam (senheiser, etc.) type and the sweat ruins them pretty quickly.

I prefer hedphones. There are certain "details" that you listen only with them. I have a pair of OLD Senheisers that still work very good!!!!!!

Speakers during the day because most of my neighbors aren't home during the day, either and I can blast the stereo either while me and Cassie are doing stuff around the house or in the backyard in her kiddy pool or on her swingset. But, when hubby ( when he's home, which is close to never) and Cassie are asleep at night and I don't watch some good TV shows or old movies, I listen to my fave music under the headphones, so my answer is both! Aren't I a pain in the backside? ------------------ Anita Bonita

Wireless headphones come nowhere near the sound quality that wired cans do. The best I have heard are the Sennheiser RS80 at around $280.00. I would avoid them unless wireless is absolutely necessary. Not only do you lose sonically with wireless, but I found that you constantly have to fine tune the receiver in the headphone unit to avoid static. I had my RS80s for about a week before I returned them.
