I play all my music off my computer, and I have a really good speaker system from Altec Lansing. It only cost $80 CDN after tax, and it has really good bass quality. I also use WinAmp (www.winamp.com) as my player, and it has good equalization features, so I can get my music to sound the way I want it.

Interesting question-
For most of the day, (since I work from home) music is pumping out of my old EPI speakers that are hooked to my computer- I just couldn't bear to throw them away when we built our house,(I had a Bose surround sound setup built-in) so they get most of the duty. When the wife's at work and the kids are at school, and it is lunch break, I throw a CD on the Bose system and rock out- especially the new Spyro Gyra!!!!!
When I'm working late (pretty normal) I use a set of Radio Shack headphones- no kidding, they are excellent for the $- beats my old Koss set hands down! They had them on sale a while back, get 2 for 1, so my daughter can use them to play her computer games with and not disturb me whilst working.
So I guess the short answer is "all of the above"- but I prefer my Bose to anything else if I can get the privacy.
Now I am like David, when I'm practicing my bass, it's headphones only- drives my wife nuts to hear it too much. And hey, I need a lot of practice, so it's the only way!

I use headphones when I preview, but when I'm listening for pleasure, when I have time, I like it loud enough to feel, but not so loud that it hurts. Since I live in a rural area, neighbors are not a concern. On the patio I fire up two 800 watt amplifiers with a 64 ch eq and run two Yamaha subs, each with a pair of 15's, two Yamaha mid's with 15's and horns and a pair of Peavy 15's. It's a back yard concert that can be heard a half mile away. When listening inside the home, I have my own studio, but the family uses the old Bose 901's and a pair of Sansui's I got back in the 70's while in the Air Force. Still luvineveryminuteofit
