I realize this topic isn't too fitting with Paul's BB, but I can't think of a better place to put this, as it is a story of a very special music story, and everybody here is so open and in tune.
We went to a Jan and Dean concert Friday, and I have to tell you all, Jan is a special human being. For sure, he still deals with the physical after effects of the accident in 66 that almost killed him. He needs help getting up and down stairs, isn't very steady on his feet, and is still going through therapy. But he won't let that stop him. He sits right up there in the middle of the stage, smiling away, thoroughly enjoying himself. When they did "Dead Man's Curve", he brought the house down, and got a well deserved standing O. I should also say that Dean deserves some recognition, too, because he is still there, playing and singing. What is it that keeps them going?
After the show Jan sat in the lobby signing autographs, and I have to tell you, as much trouble as his physical self may give him, his eyes tell a much different story. If you want to see a face light up in ways you can't imagine, this is a must see. "Hey Jan. Great show, thanks" is all it takes.
Even if you don't care for their music a lot, please go to a Jan and Dean show to celebrate his, and our, human spirit.
Chip
