Hey, i've been listening to Paul Taylor for quite a while now, i've seen him perform live with the Rippingtons, and he's absolutely incredible.

The only question i have is, has anyone else noticed that whenever he improvises, there are either no chords behind him, or they are very soft for the most part? On Hypnotic, the chords are almost inaudible, and on Live Across America on Summer Lovers, he goes for about a minute and a half with just percussion in the background.

Is that just his style, or does he not like to play over changes??

adam, it just feels good doing it like that and now if it's a style, thats cool too. sometimes less is more and it makes for nice contrasts within a song. peace

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer me, i really appreciate that.

I never really gave much thought to how what you do makes a contrast within a song, and it makes a lot of sense to me now that i think about it.

I did a song last year for my jazz band where i took a solo cadenza on alto where it was just me, and it never occured to me that it was just a big contrast in the piece. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Last question, if you wouldn't mind, could you tell me what setup you use on soprano? Im really looking to emulate that bright yet clear tone, and even though equiptment only goes so far, it might help me out.

Thanks again,

ADAM
