hi paul,

if i could get your advice? 2 weeks ago i went to col.to the khih fest.it was great.however [i took my horn of course],my horn was in a-ok playing condition the entire time i was there.5 days later i noticed some major changes.my top d pad was deteriorating.1 of the felt pads fell off,the Ab & f# were bad, and it looks as though my low d pad is separating from the rim[does that make sence?].
i did play in the car with and without air,and outside at the rest stops,[does that ever draw attention to 1].
could it have been the climate change and humidity? im finally picking it up from the repairs today to the bad tune of $85.00!its only been 4 months ago since i had had it in for a different pad replacement
i've kept up my playing on my 1st horn,[horible creature],and have now got a raw lip!
should i not take my good horn on trips?
like i say- i cant tolerate my other 1.

frustrated- mandi

hi mandi,

it could the climate. it could be that you're playing it a lot, so some pads are going to wear out on you. welcome to the club. it's going to happen. you take it to be fixed and soon a different set of pads fail.

i get my horns overhauled every few years (they take them all apart and replace all pads, clean, fix, etc..), but i still have to take 'em in for minor leaks, too. the overhaul's guarantee should cover those minor pad repairs for awhile, saving you $.

i would play the horn you like best, life is too short, haha. keep the 1st one 'undercover' until the good one is in the shop again. hope this helps.

c' ya
