Well that is an interesting thing for Lyle to say...and i don't know how to take it....some might take it as saying a creating music is as simple as learning the chords and techniques, and then A+B=C. Kinda clinical sounding....but I agree that it is at least a small part that way.
Dylan once referred to his music as "mathematical music"...but that might have been in answer to a stupid member of the press who asked him to "describe his music". Remember, one reporter asked Dylan to describe his taste in music, and Dylan answered, straightfaced, "Kinda like peanut butter'!! Hilarious!!!
It does amaze me how many great songs Pat and Lyle can come up with....amazing!
Or, look at another classic contemporary jazz band, Spyro Gyra. They have finished recording their new CD, "ORIGINAL CINEMA", which is the bands 23rd in 25 years!
Plus, Tom Schuman, Spyro's piano/synth virtuoso, released a CD this year, and may release TWO next year!
Prolific!!!
Inspiration?
Indeed!
Peace!
Paul
