Dear Friends,

An upcoming benefit concert has been brought to the attention of Smooth Notes and News.com which we will be lending our support.

In the past, you have been extremely selfless in your expressions of support of children; in particular, the children of saxophonist Art Porter, during the benefit held in Chicago, July 2001. I am asking your attention and support, if possible, for this worthy cause.

The press release was provided to me by Vernon and Lynn Barbary. For those of you who don't know Vernon, he is bassist and musical director for Nelson Rangell's band.

The high cost of medical care is devastating... disheartening and overwhelming to parents and the children whose lives have been affected by catastrophic illnesses. Won't you please help?

The "Jazz for Life" Benefit concert, featuring saxophonist Nelson Rangell and Denver-based band Dotsero, which will be held in Denver, CO on Tuesday, December 9, 2003. Tickets are $35.00. If you can attend the benefit, that would be great. If not, consider sending the cost of the ticket (or whatever you can), by check or money order, made payable to: Elijah's Rainbow, 2311 High Street, Denver, CO. 80205. Your donations are tax deductible.

We are quickly approaching the season of giving: why not give the gift of life?

May God richly bless and keep each of you in His care.

Nelson Rangell!!

Nelson played at our Jazz for Scholars benefit, which provided music school scholarships for students.

Please tell Nelson that his fans here in CT say "hi". And maybe he'll whistle a tune in the show....

gwenn,

I won't be able to be there, but will send a donation, thanks for including the address.

A friend of mine is a volunteer at the children's hospital in Boston, mostly with very young oncology patients. Since becoming involved, he has volunteered for other programs and has sponsored an annual event which raises money for the Children's Hospital Aids Program. This year was his 13th year raising money for this program.

Thru my friend, I understand how this benefit will assist these young patients. Their parents have so many expenses and insurance only goes so far.

Kat,

You are so right. It does have a profound affect on you. When you're focused outward, on others' needs it takes the mind off one's own worries and concerns.

I cannot think of a better way to express gratitude for one's own life than to contribute in some way to the lives of others. Children have always held a very special place in my heart. Thank you for supporting the benefit.
