Since this is a music site, how about some comments on the CD recording of records?
I've got a Kenwood component system. Over a lifetime (I'm not THAT old yet), I built up an impressive collection of albums, 45's and cassettes. With the come-lately trend towards the nostalgic (at my age, 70's and 80's is considered nostalgic), and my father's WAY IMPRESSIVE collection of original platters from the 50's and 60's (Sinatra, Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass etc.), I'd LOVE to be able to preserve this music forever on CD.
I understand that there are two ways to do this, with pros and cons.
My understanding is that home CD recording decks pick up all the noise and static, and are currently priced at $500.
Then there are the PC based units with software especially for this purpose to "clean up" the sound. Although on another board, people were complaining at the low success rate with which they could record on a PC based system and playback in their car without getting some sort of an error because the format couldn't be read.
Anyone here have any advice on how I could go about doing this?
For me, because of the distance and setup from my PC to my stereo, I think computer based recording would be impossible. I'd like to get a dual deck CD recorder, not really to copy CD's, but to create my own custom discs, and to copy my vast album and 45s collection.
Any experienced comments welcome. (I'm not a sound engineer, so not too technical please!)
