I heard Paul Taylor peform an excellent cover of Ronnie Laws - "Always There". Does any one know of other artists who have recorded a cover of this excellent tune?

Jeff Golub has a very nice version of ‘Always There’ (cd – Nightlife) which gets plenty of air play here in Philly. There’s also a version by a British jazz/funk group called Incognito (cd – Inside Life). This version is pretty good except for the vocals, which I could have done without.

Yeah, Incognito has a smokin' version (w/vocals) on one of their older cd's. An R&B band from back in the 70's named Wood, Brass & Steel did a nice funky version too! There was also another R&B band called Side Effect that did a nice version w/vocals!

I haven't heard the others, but one that does it for me is by the live one done by the WB all-stars. Running time is just shy of 11 minutes.
The lineup:
Michael Manson - bass
Larry Carlton - guitar
Billy Kilson - drums
George Duke and Rick Jackson - keyboards
Rick Braun - trumpet
and 1-2-3 sax solos by
Boney James - tenor
Kenny Garrett - alto
Kirk Whalum - tenor

Yes, Donna, it's on Casino Lights '99. :p

This was one of my first favorite CJazz songs that wasn't total fusion so I don't like the relaxing versions of it..I thought Golubs version took all the energy out of it...
It's hard to find but Paul Hardcastle did an excellent version of it at the original energy level, I saw Dotsero do it live and being Dotsero, they smoked it!

Ugh, I hate Golub's style of slowing down and killing originals with his cover versions! "Pick Up The Pieces"....what the heck was that?? Ugh!

its smooth and relaxing. But when you see him live he is fabulous and he rocks..and needless to say "pieces" and "cut the cake" are NOT smooth when he does them live. He is a total case of someone I adore onstage who is just too relaxing on CD..but it keeps him from blowing the radio consultant's pacemaker and not getting airplay.
