Released in early October. Jaared’s new cd “Hangtime” is a great follow-up to his first cd.

While listening to “Hangtime” I made notes and then read Jeff Charney’s review, from contemporaryjazz.com and Jeff nailed it :“….The man’s chops are down and his song selection is right on for his playing style. His tone is very strong which you can tell in his on the first track "Make It Happen" or on the duet he did with guitarist Patrick Cooper on the cover "Crazy Love." My favorite song [and mine too] on the disc is a Latin flavored piece "Ibiza" co-written by keyboardist Marcus Johnson, (who produced five tracks on the CD) about an island off the coast of Spain. Ken Navarro adds some nice nylon guitar accompaniment. The song is simply gorgeous and you’ll turn up the volume every time you hear it. The title track is an upbeat, head bopping tune with an infectious hook "Moonbeams" is more on the slow side, but boy does Jaared sound like Sanborn. "Search Light" is another up beat tune with a little bit of some nice urban funk. There is even a live version of "Foreward: I Love You," a track off Jaared’s first CD …. I have nothing, but good praise for this young saxophonist who seems to have good chops, musical feel and the compositions on Hangtime are quite enjoyable to listen too.”

IMHO even the cover songs were done very well. All the songs have staying power for melody and rhythm. Jaared did an outstanding job with this cd.

I liked his forward cd but really like what he's done on hangtime better. For those who have shied away from this cd for whatever reason, please give it a spin.

Happy listening,
Lou
