Alright, everyone...I'm interested in a particular sound, but I'm not sure exactly what to call it. Flamenco, maybe? Music with a Latino flair? Not really sure....at any rate, something along the lines of Some of Acoustic Alchemy's stuff, or Strunz and Farrah...something that has some intensity and passion to it, with that Castillian or Hispanic sound. Oh yeah, I'm thinking primarily a guitar type of thing, but I'm open to suggestions. Am I making any sense? Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
Go immediately and pick up "Elegant Gypsy" and "Casino" by Al Di Meola. Flamenco influenced, and MONSTER chops...sometimes his speed on acoustic guitar is so incredible that I LAUGH!
The band called "The Gypsy Kings" is a fantastic starting point, too.
Please get back to me if and when you check these two artists out....I am looking forward to your reaction!
Peace! Paul

there is Of course Ottmar Liebert-stick to his early Higher Octave stuff..his Epic/Sony stuff was a bit out there Other goodies: Jesse Cook 3 CDs on Narada I like Tempest Best Armik: 3 CDs out kinda hard to find Shahin and Sepehr: these guys are incredible and push the boundaries a bit too. one of my most active as far as requests/"who is that" phonecalls. When I was doing retail I sold about 10 every time I played it in the store (much to the dismay of the Home office who wanted me to focus on Kenny G and Yanni) 1001 Nights is the most representative, I like "E" a lot, "Aria" was a kissup to Smooth Jazz airplay so it's a bit different, I wasn't thrilled with it but they came back strong with "World Cafe" Govi is really good..go for the early stuff I like the recent ones but they are a listen before you buy I love the first B tribe CD, the title escapes me but it's got a pink cover..Ottmar Liebert meets Enigma..wasn't as happy with their later stuff..checkitout that should max your credit card for now.. see book of lists..left U a message re P.Howards

How about Marc Antoine? All his albums have that latin/spanish flair. I love his stuff. Also, check out the Curdled soundtrack (it has Obsession Confession by Slash). Plus, Herb Alpert has put out some good CDs recently.

Another artist I would recommend is Ray Obiedo. Very good stuff, a good blend of jazz with lots of latin influence.
"Sticks and Stones" is one of my favorite CDs.

Also, keep your eyes posted for Steve Oliver's new album to be released any time now (guitarist for Bamboo Forest). His flair is latin jazz and he's hot. He is self taught with a little help from Al DiMeola years ago. When he was playing in SF Bay Area, B4 BF, he was frequently compared to Ottmar and a few others. BTW, Shannon, since you have met him, I remember when they had a "Best Acoustic Guitarist in Calif. Competition in San Francisco", Craig Chaquico, B4 he hit the airwaves in a big way, was one of the judges, and presented Steve with his award, I still have the pic and he was nervous as heck!LOL!
BTW, I think Phil posted the KKSF line up in the SF Bay Area. Thanks!! I haven't been getting their mag. since I moved from the south bay, so I see there are way to many great concerts to see!!! But, I can't wait! Are you guys jealous yet?!!
Keiko here I come...........free, too!!!

I saw Steve Oliver this May at the Maui Music Festival and was VERY impressed, have been anxiously awaiting the release of his CD. He performed with Bamboo Forest & jammed alongside Steve Reid, Jeff Kashiwa, Brian Culbertson, Najee, Spyra Gyra (to name a few) - it was an incredible experience!! That boy can play classical guitar like nobody's business, but we only got a small tease (as can be the case at large festivals). Scott, be on the lookout for this guy!

Little update from my last post. Steve Oliver's new CD was just released days ago, according to the announcement he made on stage Friday. I looked everywhere on the internet, but finally found it at Borders.com, so give it a listen if you're so inclined!

Scott: Have you heard Lee Ritenour's 1988 release "Festival"? All acoustic guitar. Dave Grusin, Bob James, Omar Hakim, Ernie Watts, etc., are backing him up as well as some well-known Brazilian musicians. This is one of my favorites. Think you might like it, too.
