I found out recently that the campus radio station here, WDCV, has some 2-hour spots open during the day and I've applied for one. If this happens it will be so cool playing music that it not being heard in this area.

The station IS available via the Internet so I'll keep you all informed. There is a mandatory "apprenticeship" training period prior to being assigned a time slot. At this point the thought sort of has me pumped at the prospect. The funny thing is that they have trouble with morning time slots since few students come to life prior to noon each day. So obviously the available slots are not primo for having a lot of listeners. We'll see how it goes.

Also, since my slot will be classified as a specialty music show, there is exemption from having to play those selections deemed by the school as being in heavy rotation.

.... Now, what do I call this show?

Sounds like a great opportunity Phil- you're a lucky guy! Hopefully, with the new stuff coming out from our favorite bands, there will lots to pick from......2 hours really isn't all that long, if you stop and think about it.
Gee, a name for it.....that's a tough one. You could piggyback on the Starbucks theme, with "Expresso for the Ears" or something, or "Fusion Cafe", "Large Latte, extra funk"....I'm sure that's no help, but I guess it should be attractive to your target audience. At a college, heck- Jazz Pizza....Fusion Brew....wow, I better stop now.
Good luck, let us know how it goes! Maybe we can send you some CD's or something to round it out if you need any....let us know what you want. I would think Chris Geith and the Count would be glad to send you some material.

In looking over the available time slots this morning, only 8:00AM - 10:00AM are currently available daily. At that hour, playing the music I have in mind, suggests that I should call the show "The Daily Jolt!" But I suppose that this period is not too bad for commuters who might tune in.

When the school year ends in late May I can request a different time slot. I should know more once I spend some time with the station manager. She gets back from Spring break on Monday.

And thanks for some name suggestions. Keep 'em coming!

8am isn't bad, although if you can switch to 10 am you will be able to catch office listeners both at home and via the web..

when I was in college our morning show was called Freefall and we could play anything..the idea was to mix genres so it was a bit of a jolt..I did things like Patti Smith into Jean Luc Ponty into Nils Lofgren into a Chopin Etude. Don't think you could jolt them anymore than that!! Around that time the administration decided to clear out all the students and run news and classical 24/7 and FSU didn't get another student station for 15 years.

Just don't call it anything that makes it seem "aged out"..you might even want to ask some of the students..Actually there is a station on live365 that plays more uptempo stuff than your average SJ station and is called Smooth Jazz Expresso

well, I'll probably be asleep when you go on air so i'll be making some advance request, Mr DJ.

Let This Be The One - Jeff Richman(Live At The Baked Potato Vol 2)

Patriots - Joe Zawinul + The Zawinul Syndicate (World Tour)
for the brave men and women of the US, UK and AUS

John McKee - Jack DeJohnette (Parallel Realities)
you introduced this album to me, and I'm making this song as my pick as a thank you, I know you like this song but what I'm really batting for is Indigo Dreamscapes. ;\)

and please, break this 4minute format crap that radio is imposing just to make money, some songs are not worth the radio edit.
