If you were trying to turn someone onto contemporary jazz that had no clue about any of the music but wanted to get on the bandwagon, what would be a good collection of songs to compile onto a tape? These aren't favorite songs but more likable songs that are easy to take to. You must limit to only 2 songs per band otherwise it would be too easy to just tell them to get the whole Ripps and SG libraries...In no particular order.

Bamboo Forrest "Mysteries" from Mysteries
Peter White "Dreamwalk" from Greatest Hits
Paul Taylor "Dream Come True" from On The Horn
Brian Bromberg "Through The Window" from You Know That Feeling
Jeff Kashiwa "I Will Come Back To You" from Remember Catalina
Warren Hill "Another Goodbye" from Devotion
Rick Braun "A Very Good Thing" from Full Stride
Ripps "Welcome To St. James Club" from same title
Ripps "Curves Ahead" from Live in L.A.
Spyro Gyra "Pipo's Song" from Three Wishes
Spyro Gyra "Birk's Law" from Dreams Beyond Control

SteveH . . .

I would shoot for diverse contemporary jazz selections. They might include:

1. Pat Metheny Group - "First Circle" and "The Road to You" from "The Road to You" live release. (1993)

2. Yellowjackets - "New Rochelle" and "Savanna" from "Blue Hats." (1997)

3. George Benson - "Breezin'" and "Masquerade" from "Breezin.'" (1976)

4. Rippingtons - "Highroller" and "Morocco" from "Live In L.A." (1993)

5. Spyro Gyra - "Harbor Nights" and "Incognito" from "Incognito" (1982)

6. Manhattan Transfer - "Sassy" and "Off Beat of the Avenues" from "Off Beat of the Avenues."

7. Al Jarreau - "I Will Be There For You" from "Al Jarreau Live In London" and "Since I Fell For You" from the Bob James-David Sanborn release "Double Vision."

1 Boby Lyle -'Jubilee' and 'A Moment in Time' from 'THE POWER OF TOUCH'(1997).
2 Nelson Rangell-'Someday' and 'All This Time' from 'IN EVERY MOMENT'(1992).
3 Joe Sample-'Carmel' and 'I'm Coming Back Again' from 'SAMPLE THIS'(1997).
4 David Benoit-'Oceana' from 'SUMMER'(1986) and 'Every Step of The Way' from 'EVERY STEP OF THE WAY'(1988).
5 Lee Ritenour-'Rio Sol' from 'FESTIVAL'(1988) and 'Can You Feel It?' from 'THIS IS LOVE'(1998).
6 YUTAKA-'Colors of The Wind' and 'Warm and Sunny Sunday Morning' from 'YUTAKA'(1988).
7 Dimension (Japanese Fusion Band)-'Yes or No' and 'Brighter in Your Life' from 'DIMENSION 9th'.
8 Chuck Loab-'Right Down Broadway' and 'Listen' from 'LISTEN'(1999).
9 Benoit/Freeman-'When You Believed in Me' from 'THE BENOIT FREEMAN PROJECT'(1994).

Well...it is absolutely hard to choose only two songs from each artist.

Thank you both. I'll have to check out some of those I haven't heard.
