OK, all....I've really been digging Stanley Clarke's sound on the radio over the last few months....all I've really heard are "Hideaway" and some tunes from the Passenger 57 soundtrack (that I've tried to find in vain....) The thing is, I ran across the "Hideaway" CD today in a used store, and was going to get it, but I gave it a listen, and all the other tracks (at first listen, at least) were WAY 80's. Very disappointing. I opted to pass for now...nine bucks is a lot for one tune. My question is, does anyone else dig the sound? And do you have any recommendations from this artist? Shannon? Paul? Others? Help....

Peace,

Scott

I got into this music by way of Return to Forever and Jeff Beck and I love Stanley Clarke's RTF work but to me his solo albums have been spotty..a few great songs and a bunch that didn't do much for me. Like you, I like "Hideaway" and found the rest of the album weak, even at the time it came out..My advice with his solo CDs is either go to a store where you can listen before you buy or hit a website like CDNow where you can sample trax because the solo CDs that I have heard are pretty inconsistent.

"East River Drive" is a pretty good CD if you are starting out listening to Stanley Clark's music. There are a couple movie theme songs ("Justice's Groove" from Poetic Justice, and the theme from "Boys in the Hood"). The other tracks are good.
