Can anybody recommend some of the great releases?
I love the Corea, Weckl, Gambale, Patittuci, Marienthal lineup.
I only have "Inside Out" and really like it but I thought I heard that this was actually one of the lamer releases from this ensemble. If that's the case I must get some of the "better" ones. Thanks.

I must first say that I’m not a big fan of CCEB. So please take what I say with a grain of salt. Elektric Band seemed to me to be trapped somewhere a light RTF and a weak stab at Weather Report. Their sound always seemed stiff, not fluid to me. Any how that said, I do find ‘Beneath the Mask’ good listening. It features the same lineup as ‘Inside Out’.

Beneath the Mask is probably the best of this set. I predict you'll absolutely love the tracks, One of Us Is Over 40 ... and Jammin' E. Cricket. I'm also partial to Light Years, with an honorable mention to their first effort in this format - good songs: Side Walk, Cool Weasel Boogie, Got a Match and Elektric City. I found Inside Out to be okay, but not great. However, you must avoid Eye of the Beholder at all costs. While the others may lean toward the smooth or the pop, they're still basically good. Most of the songs on Eye of the Beholder are boring at best, and some are just plain awful. And that's coming from one who's never met a Chick Corea album he didn't like (save for that one).

Now see, I have been a fan since RTF's "7th Galaxy" and actually Eye of the Beholder is one of my favorite Elektrik Band CDs, Light Years is another favorite and I didn't particularly enjoy Beneath the Mask..
getting ready to go to Jacksonville Jazz Festival day 2 I can't help but remember when CCEB played our festival over 10 years ago and just totally tore it up. Needless to say the rock guitar guys were going nuts over Gambale!

wow. i recently copied a black one off my dad.
the cover is black but it doesnt appear to have an album title. else i missed it.
but its a really awesome record. plus some of the songs sorta 'phase' into each other, i love when that happens. i think this is fusion? jazz at its best. i want more...

Light Years was my first exposure to these guys, other than Corea's RTF which I loved. So, I think CCEB is not all that much different from RTF, just added a sax, and Patatucci is a far different style of bass player than Stanley Clarke, Frank Gambale is good, but he's not Al DiMeola quality level (in my book anyway), so it definitely has a different feel to it than RTF. Corea seems more balanced with CCEB, he lets the others do their thing also rather than dominating. Throw Weckl in on drums, and wow what a band. There is a bit of "stiffness" in Eye of the Beholder to me, but I have only heard it once (a loaner)- so I can't do it justice as far as an honest critique. To be honest, I think I like Weckl's Rhythm of your Soul better than most of the CCEB stuff, it's just easier on my ears I guess. Just being able to find some of these may be a task, I haven't seen but one in the used CD store I frequent, and they usually have a good selection of jazz and cjazz stuff, so at least in my area, they are a rare thing. Good luck TonyY

Thanks all, for the replies. Need to go shopping now. Weckl's "Master Plan" is a real accessible release as well with Corea's stamp on it. Lots of catchy songs.

The only Weckly I have is "Heads Up," which is quite good. Love that 7th Ave. South.
