Has anyone bought Still Small Voice? It is so good!!! If you are having a rough night, Its a shame, just picks you up! The song is absolutely groovalicious, and has fabulous playing by Jackson. Also, it features live brass which is more than most smooth jazz artists use these days. I like the whole cd overall, especially the title cut, but that one track never gets old. Anyone else hooked on it too?
I love it!!!!!

Hi BlackDiamond,

Yes, I've mentioned in the "What are you listening to for 2004" thread that I love the Still Small Voice CD. I think all the instrumental tracks are very enjoyable, which is 10 tracks worth! It was my first CD by Paul Jackson Jr, but after enjoying it, I ordered his previous one "The Power of the String". It just came today ... haven't had time to crack it open yet.

Lynn(introvert) convinced me with one of her posts over at ContemporaryJazz.com and I ordered a copy yesterday. I'll let you know what I think about it soon. Meanwhile, blackdiamond, do you have "The Power Of The String"?

Yeah but your reference was brief so I started a new thread. My only problem with Still Small, is the use of obnoxios sampled precussion. Why oh why does the current Contemporary Jazz World use this stupid insipid way of playing rythm. The thing that keeps me listening is solid strong playing and improvising, such as Jackson's technique. He is fairly unique at least by my hearing...
I mean saving money is one thing, but making your music sound like its assembled on the floor of the Ford plant is a current problem with Smooth Jazz Stations.

Hi blackdiamond,

I am in agreement with you on this one. They had it set up on one of the listening stations at Borders. I listened to it a couple of times but I passed on it as a retail sale. I will look for it used to pull a few tracks off onto a compilation cd.

It seems I am either getting more particular in my musical taste or the Artists are getting too commercially formatted. My list of "buy used" is growing longer every week while my "to-buy" list is shrinking.

Happy listening,
Lou

That's funny. See I will more likely buy something used in general just because its cheaper. I think believe it or not, I left Let it ripp on my car roof and lost it on the road somewhere. So I bought another copy...annoying since I actually had a different cd in the case of Chick Corea. Anyways, I like used just to save money. Yeah commercial things are sad especially since an earlier ripp's album, Topaz I think, says in the liner notes. "Such and such (Brandon Reid? can't remember...) does not use any sampled precussion. I thought that was cool. The ripps don't do that live at least....
