I just wanted to send out birthday greetings to Mr. Jay Beckenstein of Spyro Gyra!
He, more than anything, is the reason that Spyro Gyra has remain at the top in the contemporary jazz field.
More than his chops, more than his stage presence, it's his sense of melody and ability to come up with GREAT compositions year after year after year(going on 23 years!!)that sets him apart from the rest
How many bands make 4 or 5 records and then fizzle out or then make inconsistent records after that?
It's because of Beckenstein and the fact that he keeps such top notch musicians in the band that Spyro Gyra remains the most copied band around.
