Hey Dave welcome. Your imprint is very cool - thanks for putting out some classic stuff. It's nice to see label folk here at the island. As you know Spryo is a favorite... Peace. http://www.GOsmooth.com

This is a great clip. Be sure and read the bio. I love Jay's thoughts on conventionality in both the smooth and straightahead camps.
And thank you for 2 things 1. not requiring quicktime to view this. My home PC chokes when I run quicktime
2. A buzzword and Widran free presentation..no mention of hot tubs, wine or those s words (sultry, sensual, smooth, seductive etc..) Fresh!

Hey Dave...
Thanks for getting the word out!!! It seems that ORIGINAL CINEMA has quite the pre-release buzz...and I am stoked that Heads Up is getting behind the new record in the same way HU got behind "IN MODERN TIMES".
Can't wait till Feb 25!!!
Peace! Paul

I can even listen at work, and normally anything that is Real Player, etc won't pass thru the fire wall. I'm just waiting for them to figure out how to block this!!

I finally got to see it after I got home last night. Grrr, these Macs here at work are a pain. So many Web links require plug-ins that never work on this machine. I download them, install them, and nothing happens. Who needs a firewall when we got ornery Macs? Anyway, thank you Dave for sharing that with us and, of course, I'm more anxious than ever to get my copy.

Have listened to "Extrovertical" nearly 30 times siince a friend of my legally downloaded it several days back... He isn't much of a jazz fan, but he has heard of the term "smooth jazz". I asked him what he thought of "Extrovertical". He said it didn't seem "smooth" to him, more like "extra crunchy"!!! Peace! Paul "He not busy be born is busy dying" -Bob Dylan

Almost forgot about this thread: Hey, Original Cinema is an ace from start to finish. I hesitate to claim a favorite so soon - I'm on my fifth listen of the entire CD and have not replayed any one song - but so far, while I've enjoyed every one, Funky Tina is the one that jump starts my engine more than the rest. And that whole sequence from Party of Seven to Getaway is a series that rivals Heart of the Night in terms of most consecutive, exceptionally written and performed songs on one disc. This is after having it less than 24 hours and without cranking up the volume. By this time next week, that number might grow from 8 to as high as, hmmm, 13? I said this elsewhere on the board, but it's worth repeating: Nearly every album, no matter how good, has at least one sleeper - a song that, while it's good, is one you don't mind skipping if you're making a mixtape and have to leave something out because it won't fit. Asian Trilogy from Kenny Garrett's "Happy People" is a perfect example. I like it, but when I realized my tape was about 4 minutes too short, Asian Trilogy was the song I chose to leave out. And of all of Spyro Gyra's albums - not counting those with 8 songs or less - there's always one song that's expendable should I run out of tape. Not this time. EVERY song gets in.

Hey, Dave, you ever thought about trying to sell one of these tunes to one of the big automakers? Surely, if Lincoln can get a lot of mileage out of Mr. Scruff's "Get a Move On," there's a place for something off Original Cinema. That's one way to break the hold "focus groups" have on getting music out to the general population. If it's in a commercial, especially one shown during sporting events, people notice.

Since Tower Records in Anahem, and in Brea, dropped the ball AGAIN(just as they did with In Modern Times), I am again gonna have to wait for my fix of Original Cinema. For others the show began several days back...but for me, I am stiil seeing paid for commercials for the Los Angeles Times(a LA and Orange County movie going inside joke). Peace! Paul, If this serves as an assurance to you, you can get your order through Heads Up plus they offer free shipping. Some people are reluctant to do transactions online, but mine arrived safely. My copy flew from Heads Up all the way to Sydney Australia....and all I paid for was 25 AUS $ (15 US $). Our jazz store here is charging 38 AUS $ and at HMV its 39.95 AUS $....what a bunch of theives

Joel is right. Heads Up is pretty reliable. This was my second order direct from them; both arrived within 3 days of processing.

That is all well and good but my case is sort of unique here: At Christmas, my girlfriend gave me, among other things, a Tower Records gift credit card. Several weeks later she got on my case for not having bought "my present" yet. By this time, Heads Up had announced the Feb 25 2003 release of Original Cinema. My girlfriend has become a fan of the band, and telling her that I'd be getting the Original Cimema w/ "her" Christmas present, well she took note of it. Anyway, with the release date announced in early January or perhaps sooner than that, is it too big of a problem for one of the largest record chains in the country to have a new release on the street date. In calling two of Tower Stores, Anaheim and Brea, they both claim to have ordered copies of Original Cinema back in January, and they are saying the problem is at the other end. I'll say the same thing I said when it took Tower records nearly two weeks to stock the release of In Modern Times: Good things come to those who wait....I guess. Peace! Yeah, Paul, I see what you're saying. And I feel it. Being where I am, many new movies - including some major ones - don't get shown here on the national release dates, if at all. In fact, 007 "Die Another Day" still hasn't made it to our theater. Sure, we get the Star Wars, the Harry Potters and the Lord of the Rings on time, and I suppose the Matrix and Terminator sequels will be on time, but so many others either don't get shown at all, or they arrive so long after every other theater has shown them, nobody remembers they're even supposed to come out. On another note, sorry, but my review is not available at this time. Something's wrong with our Web site, so nothing that's been added since Tuesday night will show.

I am not trying to score any label points here, but if it is Heads Up, believe me, it is not the label's problem. (I hope) > More than likely, the buyer for Tower did not order on time. Heads Up is not going to let a major release not hit the shelves by streetdate. There is too much at stake. Understandably, the date could have been bumped. Alternatively, their distributor may have screwed up – that happens or they are plain bad – like when most folks here couldn't get Steve Oliver's last release almost anywhere except Borders – that was a distributor problem, not the label's. Usually it is the buyers not knowing or understanding the genre or product. However, I could be wrong - I've been before. I missed my streetdate by two weeks because the artwork came back wrong. It's fun sending 5000 units back to the manufacturer. Tower is gonna charge too much anyway, but having a gift certificate is really cool, thus the cheaper way to go for you, dude. Oh yeah – also from Heads Up is the upcoming Gerald Veasley CD – that's cool s*h*i*t as well! Go Amazon!

I agree with the Count. Several of us who pre-ordered from Heads Up all received ours on the same day - Tuesday, a week before the national release. And Amazon is also very reliable. In fact, it's been my experience that Amazon is a lot like Scottie: over-estimating the delivery time. If Amazon says you'll receive it on March 5th, chances are you'll have it up to three days before that, but certainly not after. I think the fault in your case lies with Tower Records.

To update everyone....I finally did pick up Original Cinema last week....and it is fantastic.
Worth the wait, plus the extra two and a half weeks, thanks to the distributor.
Ya gott hear "Extrovertical", "Big Dance Number", "Cape Town Love", "Calle Ocho", "Fim Noir" and "Dream Sequence" and "Bump It Up"....those are the standouts for me, at the moment, but the good sign is that they seem to be changing every day or so!
INVEST IN IT!!!
Peace! Paul

I know what you mean, Paul. I started with Funky Tina and Close-Up. Then, it was Film Noir and Getaway. This week, at least through today, it's Big Dance Number and Calle Ocho. Extrovertical, of course, is in a class by itself.
