I posted info about this subject in the thread "Recent Spyro Concert Info".
I saw the band on May 6th at Indian Canyons(Palm Spings CA).
The entire set list for both sets of the evening are posted there.
The third tune of the concert was "Sunrise".
The first tune of the second set was a Tom Schuman composition, "Groovin' For Grover"(penned in tribute to the late Grover Washington Jr.)
We then heard "Good Bye Porkpie Hat"...great rendition, Jay intense on a smokey tenor sax.
This was followed by an even better than the studio version "Monsoon". And you are correct, Julio stepped out with an almost David Gilmour-ish spacy and bluesy turn.
Jay said that to get a band together to play his solo stuff, and to try and squeeze in dates between Spyro shows would have been next to impossible, so he decided to promote it a bit at the Spyro shows. Plus, ther people who would be familiar with him would be a the concerts anyway. Not only that, Tom, Julio, Scott and Joel would not be out of work for months while Jay was off touring.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Peace!
Paul
