OK, this one is easier to me than just choosing one composition...

If I had to recommend just one record out of all the Spyro Gyra releases...right now, it would have to be "Road Scholars"

Any other thoughts out there???

I think the arrangements on "Three Wishes" are among the best the band has done as an overall album offering. "Breathless," "Real Time," "Jennifer's Lullaby," "Whitewater," "Three Wishes," "Cabana Carioca," and "Rollercoaster" show the depth, taste and artistry of this band as a unit.

"Road Scholars" is definitely one of their best Paul, but I'm reminded of the silly attacks on the band's arrangements being "jazz lite" on JCS "Jazz Talk" BBS. "Three Wishes" is an example I would use to dispel that notion. The album explores the contemporary, R&B, jazz and Latin influences that characterize Spyro's diversity as a truly unique group.

I've thought about the one release that I would suggest for a skeptic and believe I've swayed back and forth on this for some time. But "Three Wishes" is that one release now.

What makes it hard for me to not select "...Scholars" is my absolute love of "live" recorded concerts.

Phil,

You know, your choice of "Three Wishes" is a great one...the more I go back to that CD, the more I like it for it's diversity...and it's also one of the longer Spyro Gyra CD's..14 tracks.

A couple I'd nominate to challenge "Three Wishes"(at least studio releases), would be "Heart Of The Night"...I think because it contains some of the best Tom Schuman piano work from start to finish, and all the compositions are great.

"Alternating Currents"...the first Spyro Gyra CD with a heavier drum and guitar sound...and great tunes to boot.

"Rites Of Summer"...alot of my faves are on this record..."The Archer" "Captain Karma"...
...and that Dave Samuels track that is one of the more unique recording the band has done, especially rythem wise.

"Road Scholars" still gets's my vote for now, if I only had one!

Peace!
Paul

I listened to "Incognito" last night, and that may have to receive consideration!
