I think the arrangements on "Three Wishes" are among the best the band has done as an overall album offering. "Breathless," "Real Time," "Jennifer's Lullaby," "Whitewater," "Three Wishes," "Cabana Carioca," and "Rollercoaster" show the depth, taste and artistry of this band as a unit.
"Road Scholars" is definitely one of their best Paul, but I'm reminded of the silly attacks on the band's arrangements being "jazz lite" on JCS "Jazz Talk" BBS. "Three Wishes" is an example I would use to dispel that notion. The album explores the contemporary, R&B, jazz and Latin influences that characterize Spyro's diversity as a truly unique group.
I've thought about the one release that I would suggest for a skeptic and believe I've swayed back and forth on this for some time. But "Three Wishes" is that one release now.
What makes it hard for me to not select "...Scholars" is my absolute love of "live" recorded concerts.
