I partially agree because a lot of people are still not hip to the internet. You still need some type of distribution deal to get your cd's in the well known record stores. I am a musician and a consumer. I still like to browse the cd's at the local record store. Only then if I can't find something I want, I turn to the internet. However, if an artist is capable of playing, producing and pressing up their own product, then the internet is the way to go. You recoop your investment 100%. But you really have to get into the promotion of your product or no one will even know that you anything to sell.

Just my 2cents...

Peace

Hey David : You're right,I figured with advances in technology they could reach fans they never knew they had.......say a small remote island where they have no stores. But you're on point about product availability in the larger chains in heavily populated areas.

That's good newz Phil about Spyro ! It's just strange seeing them and The Ripps on independent labels....But at least you'll still be able to buy their product in the stores as David previously mentioned.

Phil,

That's the best news I've heard this week. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Hmmm. Head's Up/Telarc. I have other CDs from that label I believe - I'll have to check when I get home. Does that ring a bell with anyone else?

David,

I know this is cross posting, but I just wanted to let you know I got Metrocafe on your recommendation and I really like it a lot.

I believe that Ken Navarro was also on that label. As was a female sax player whom I cannot remember her name. Pamela Williams I think!

Can we get a SHOUT OUT for the executive at Heads Up/Telarc who had the brains to ink Spyro Gyra???

Congrats....you are a VERY smart person!

BTW, spoke with someone close to the band over the weekend at the NAMM show.

The recording is finished!

It's just down to mixing, mastering, sequencing the songs, and the album art, and copying the discs!

Peace!
Paul

I found out this morning why "Heads Up/Telarc" sounds so familiar to me. I was walking into the building this morning when I glanced at the building to the right. It has several offices in it, and above one of the doors it says:

23307 Telarc
23309 Heads Up

Now that's weird. I'm thinking this must be a good omen.

Holy Crap! That is their label next door!! 23309 Commerce Parkway, Cleveland (in fact Beachwood), OH 44122.

I mean, clearly this has to mean something good for us. What if Jay came here to ink the deal?!?! What if he was right next door and I didn't even know it? I'm going over there to ... to .... I don't know...proclaim my support!

I was hoping that Spyro would end up at Heads UP since it is a company that into only the contemporary jazz movement, not a major that uses CJazz as a sideline. Ironicly they just lost Joyce Cooling, who signed with GRP, Spyros old company. Small World. In addition to all the names mentioned there is also a fine sax player by the name of Kenny Blake at Heads Up. Never gets any airplay but he puts down a great sound. He joins Veasley and McBride in the Heads Up Super Band. If any of you have any the cds note that they are enhanced for the computer. Usually add some live film clips along with bio's ect. Anyone heard if Jay will continue solo work under the new agreement?
