Lawrence, did you speak to me in Alexandria? Were you sitting over by the radio station booth? Did you wear a black cap both Saturday and Sunday?

No that wasn't me. I only went to the second show on Saturday, I didn't go see them Sunday. I was kind of Spyro'ed out. I might see Spyro twice in a year but not back to back. Don't get me wrong I love the group as a whole because I wish our band was 1/10th as tight as those guys. I actually get depressed when I see Spyro, because they make it look so easy and the band I'm with has to work 40 times as hard just to sound 1/10th as tight. I was the curly haired guy sitting right in front of Julio at the 9:30 show.
Since I'm a bass player and one of the few and proud to own an Ambush, to me seeing Scott play with Spyro is a watered down performance! Only one solo at the end. When I see him locally I get drunk with all the solo's he plays. Especially when he plays with Al Williams at the Stardust in Alexandria. Every song he plays a solo and I don't mean laid back and relaxed. I mean the same thing you saw him do once at Rams Head. So I'm spoiled. The odd thing about that is usually there is about 10 people in the place and these guys are raising the dead jammin!!
Within the last two months I've seen Scott about 5 times so Saturday night was enough to keep the motor running. Whenever I want a good feeling bass in my hands I pick up my Ambush and all my troubles melt away. I usually check Spyro's schedule, call Scott and find out where his next few gigs are and show up. My wife and I got into Blues Alley while they were rehearsing, sat down front and heard several tunes prior to the show. Scott sat down and we talked awhile and he went upstairs until show time. The Mrs. and I always have a good time with him, but coming to our house was it. That was a highlight.

Hmmm... They must have changed their format at Stardust 180 degrees. I'll have to check it out again. Hope you're right. The one time I went, they played an EXTREMELY low-key, traditional/straight ahead jazz dinner set. Matter of fact, I asked at one point if they were taking requests. They replied, "Yes." I requested Scott's "Down The Wire." Al looked at him like a deer in the headlights and asked, "What's that?" Scott played about five seconds of it and said, "There. That's all you get." They then continued their low-key dinner set. What was amusing to me about that scene was that I've seen Al play this very tune with Scott at Blues Alley and other venues. Al was at the Alexandria show taking pictures on Sunday.
You and I were sitting side-by-side at Rams Head at 9:30. I was the big, bearded guy right in front of Jay in the open blue Hard Rock shirt with the white tee underneath. I recognized you as a regular at Scott's appearances...
You going to Baker Park on Aug. 3?

Gotta make it short and sweet for now(work calls...arg). Guthrie last night,5 tunes from OC,pretty damn good,intermission...second set, best tune of the night...it was soooo awesome...i can`t begin to tell how i felt...INCOGNITO!!! It was unbeleiveable, indiscribable, uncomprehenceable(hope my spellings ok),they tore it up,they kinda slowed it down...at times, sped it up...at times,it was mind blowing, tight, tight, tight, improvise, improvise, improvise I will give a better re-view after work, gotta run... Peace Spyro1

I got a chance to see them for the first time in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday June 28th. It was an outside show on the river front. The music was great, seemed as though they were having a few technical problems. Nothing major. The show started a little late due to a severe storm that just barely missed us. The tornado sirens went off about 9:30 pm and the show didn't start 'til 10:30. All of the people who left missed a great show. Thanks to the band for sticking it out. Although, Jay seemed a little annoyed, or bored, or something. Not at the crowd, more at the tech issues. Good show though.

September 5, 2003 Hyatt Newporter, Newport Beach, CA.
Setlists:
Set One:
Bump It Up Cape Town Love Film Noir Big Dance Number Shaker Song Catching The Sun Morning Dance
Set Two:
Getaway Incognito Dream Sequence Para Ti Latino Ruled By Venus The Deep End
The band hit the stage at 8:00 sharp and played all the way up to the 10 O'clock curfew(Jay-"The time the neighbor's start to complain"). There was a 15 minute break between sets.
I felt the way the songs were sequenced at the Hyatt made for a more effective concert, in comparison to the Galaxy Theater concert last April.
Moving Cape Town Love into the second slot was a good move, it really seems to get the crowd in a "move your body" mood. Film Noir, featued in the third slot was prime Jay...prime Schuuu in and understated backround wash kinda way. And Julio, he, like Schuu, showed that a few notes, played with passion and intensity, can be extremely effective in the hands of vitruoso musicians.
My time is up for now, this review to be continued after the break...
Peace! Paul
