Just find myself rewinding a particularly great solo, riff or sax break....I do this with alot of artists, Dylan(with lyrics or vocal phrasing), Pat Metheny Group, Ronnie Montrose, and a heckuva alot with Spyro Gyra.
Anyone else have this addiction of rewinding fave parts of songs over and over(say Schuuu's synth solo at the end of "Incognito", just for an example)?
Peace! Paul

I tend to play the whole song over if it's one of those kinds. Whirlwind, The Deep End among others. Or the live version of Gabriela Anders on "Fire of Love,' just to hear her and Rick Braun dialogue at the end.

To keep it to the latest from SG....Jay's solo on "The River Between" always gets two replays. His choice of notes is stupendous!

just like Woody...the whole song, and I've said it before. I listened to "Lost And Found" 14 times in one sitting...in various methods like focusing on one instrument at at time...switching from speakers to headphones...while reading the liner notes....thats right fourteen times!!! and its never enough. Pat Metheny Group's Slip Away is the all time winnner in terms of day to day double and triple repeats that runs for several weeks. jazz geek - thats what it is and thats how its done.

I do indeed rewind songs over and over as well....but I also can't resist playing a great synth, piano, vibe, sax solo over and over....on the "best of" from GRP, on the first track, it's fun to play the seamless blend of the synth solo right into the guitar solo....then from the sax solo to Dave's out solo....over and over and over!
Peace! Paul

When a particular solo presses the right button I have been known to put a finger on the CD player's rewind button to relisten to the solo.
Recently I felt that way about Brandon Fields' solo on "Perpetual Motion's" opening track, "Double Up."
More long-term, I have always loved Jay Beckenstein's solo that closes "Daddy's Got a New Girl Now" on Road Scholars. Two more of Jay's I really like and will execute several re-winds on are his soprano solo on "Para Ti Latino," and his tenor solo in front of Richie Morales' driving drums on "Ocean Parkway" from the Fast Forward release.
Julio Fernandez' closing solos on "Rollercoaster" from Three Wishes, "Breakout" from Breakout as well as on "Walk the Walk" and "Same Difference" from Dreams Beyond Control.
Dave Samuels' on "Breathless" and "Real Time" from Three Wishes, "Birks' Law" from Dreams Beyond Control and "Claire's Dream" from Point of View. (?)
Tom Schuman's on "Schu's Blues" on AAA, "Breathless" from Three Wishes, "Laser Material" from Catching the Sun and obviously "Shaker Song" from Roads Scholars.
Of course there are a host of others I could name where the "re-wind" is in effect.
However, I limit my re-wind impulses, to the privacy of my car or when I'm sitting in a chair with my headphones on, enjoying music in my own little world while everyone else in the house is watching "Everyone Loves Raymond" or some other TV episode. It is a practice that will obviously drive family and other music listeners crazy, to the point of yanking the plug out of the wall outlet or my car keys from the ignition.
So Paul, you have a compadre when it comes to re-winding for another "listen" to particular solos.

I had to laugh--a knowing laugh--at Phil's comment about driving family(or friends)crazy by rewinding and listening to a great section or solo over and over...however, if the mood strikes me, I will risk driving them crazy anyway!!! LOL!
I found Sunflurry to be one of those songs...especially at the point Schuuu's solo starts right after the stop time signatures.
Peace! Paul
