I have been mulling this over in my head for many a month, and I wonder if Spyro Gyra will eventually feel free enough from the constraints of record company execs to make an record I am sure is inside of them.

In my mind, it is a record that might contain alot of acoustic based jazz, alot of South American(Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, ect.)influenced tracks....but the big feature of the record would be that it ONLY contains 8 tracks! Over the(theoretical)70 minutes of music, the compositions average more than eight minutes apiece, and feature alot of extended soloing by all band members.
Of course, as per usual, every band member contributes at least one composition.

That's my dream Spyro Gyra record(maybe Pat Metheny makes a guest appearance on one track!! Hey, it's MY dream!!!)

Peace!
Paul.

Cris,

I really like your idea, too.

It's funny.....funny because I made my brother a mixed Spyro Gyra tape the other night....and in the midst of selecting tracks, I said to myself that I was going to make my next project one for myself...and one that featured, one side one of my 110 minutes tape, all of the most experimental Spyro Gyra compositions!

Hannibal's Boogie
Whirlwind
Pyramid
Tower of Babel
Rockaway to Sunset
Whitewater(according to Beckenstein, all of it improvised off off a Tom Schuman piano in studio improv!!! Done in one take!)
Binky's Dream #9
Pygmy Funk

Well, that is the start....and with your addition to this thread, I think I just might make that tape TONIGHT!

Thanks for the inspiration and welcome aboard!

Peace!
Paul.

Hey guys,

How about a reunion disc. Get Richie Morales (always wondered, is he related to Tony?), Dave Samuels, Chet Catelo, have Jeremy Wall sit in on keys, find the rest of the alum' and have a jam fest. Everyone could contribute a song that the whole group could jam to. I'd pay to hear that! Maybe they'd make a video. Ah dreams!

Steve

Steve,

I have to say that I would like to second your mention of Dave Samuels....though chances appear to be slim at the moment...even though Spyro has absorbed the reduction of Samuel's involvment in the full time band, and absorbed it with barely missing a beat(I thought "Heart Of The Night, the first record without Dave as a full time member/composer was one of the bands strongest), I too, would love to see Samuels eventually rejoin the band.

I am calling for a general boycott of any and all Carribean Jazz Project albums and tours(ha ha ha)!!!!!

Peace!
Paul
P.S. I also like your idea about a video, a proper representation of Spyro as it is TODAY, not that 18 year old video, that is still pretty great for it's time!
