David,

Thanks for the tips on some more great music.

I haven't heard anything about Flim and the BB's for a while....but i will send out some inquiries!

Ever heard of Wishful Thinking?

One of the many bands that seems to be influenced by the Spyr0 Gyra sound!

Peace!
Paul

Will be checking out some of the musicians you mentioned that I haven't heard much of....by the way, is Martin Chambers the same Martin Chambers that plays with the Pretenders??

Hey Dude! I don't know of Martin Chambers. Only know of a Dennis Chambers [drummer] and Paul Chambers [bassist w/The Headhunters] I haven't heard of the group you mentioned. I am sure they groove if influenced by SG!
Catch you later.

Paul . . .

Saw advance review by another poster who frequents this site on occasion and she sort of implied that "Satin and Silk" (or is it "Silk and Satin?") appears designed for smooth radio airplay.

Is this your take, since you've heard the track?

Phil,

I don't hear as much going on in most smooth jazz tracks as is going on in Silk and Satin

Phil,

Thought I would add a couple of examples to give you reference point Phil:

"Incognito" starts off with a short tune that sets the tempo for the rest of the record.

"City Kids" starts off with the title track...which sets things up for later tunes like "Conversations"
Spyro Gyra rarely has placed it's hardest charging tune as the lead track on a release.

"Silk and Satin" will remind you more of "City Kids" and the lead track off of "Incognito" rather than "Conversations" and "Incognito" or "Sunflurry".

Peace!
Paul

Soon the wait will be over Paul. Got word today from CdNow that my order is in the mail and I should get it by mid-week (June 2nd).

Phil,

Going to Tower tonight to be there at 12:01 a.m. to p/u "Got The Magic". Will post my initial reactions tommorow.
I don't expect it to contain alot of long solo's...the band has evidently decided to treat the live shows and the studio recordings as seperate entities...not wanting to feel tied down to either approach...and I agree with that.
Dylan has often said that he looks at his studio records as snapshots...or as blueprints or unfinished paintings that he can finsish and embellish in unlimited ways in the live setting.
Spyro Gyra uses the same approach.
Jay says while he is a perfectionist in the studio...he looks forward to the live shows where the band can take more chances and sink or swim based on the chances taken.

Peace!
Paul
