HA! Animal- I bet Weckl would like that! laugh

After seeing this, it reminded me I had not ever picked up Express. What did they play from that one, or do you have a set list? I can't imagine how good it must have been to have Weckl sittin in....any reason why Haffner wasn't there? Just wondered.

Express is pretty good overall, I can tell a few of the tunes will have to grow on me- the first tune (Red Fish) has a lot of synth horns, and in some spots it's a bit too "synth-y" sounding for me, but that's a very minor criticism. Up Above The Stars has got some seriously rock/shredding guitar leads in the mid section, around 3 minutes or so...Slow Down is great also. Seems every tune is surprising and dynamic, but often a bit hard to follow- will have to listen a few times to "train" my ear for it.

Excellent work by Will Lee, has got to be one of the unsung heroes of bass.

I wish the "typical" smooth jazz listener could hear more of Chuck Loeb playing like this, he's just astounding at times, very un-smooth, and not even fusion so much as flat out rock.

TY...

I don't remember the entire set list.... but these tunes come to mind:

- crosscurrents
- the standard for Michael Brecker
- lo lo shuffle
- field of dreams

thanks Kat- I like the Standard (For MB)- nice tune. The others I'll have to look up on my other computer, haven't migrated all my music to this one yet...another chore on my list smile

I would have loved to have seen the talent on stage there- And with Weckl sitting in, I'm sure I would have been in awe....what a great drummer.

Got anymore pics?

Later
TY

I do have more photos.... the other 4 are in a separate post, and the whole set can be seen on my MySpace... click on pics.

My favorite is the pic of Randy Brecker smiling .... after the show, he said to me..."you were having the best time of everybody who was here tonight".
